November 4, 2024 (CAIRO)—Sudan’s military leader Abdel Fattah al-Burhan called on the international community to support Sudan’s rebuilding at the World Urban Forum in Cairo on Monday.

Burhan, who also heads Sudan’s Sovereign Council, attended the forum at the invitation of Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi. Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and the head of Yemen’s Presidential Leadership Council, Rashad al-Alimi, were also present, along with UN officials and representatives from various countries.

In his address, Burhan said the Sudanese people and army were “looking forward to an active role from various brotherly and friendly countries and specialists in the process of rehabilitating the urban sector, which has been affected by the systematic targeting by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) supported by regional and international powers.”

He stressed that Sudan was preparing for the reconstruction phase in the post-war period, which he said would be soon.

Burhan accused the RSF of waging a war “targeting the existence of Sudan, its state and civilization” and of using foreign mercenaries to seize power and undermine the transition to democracy.

“The Sudanese people and its armed forces are determined to preserve the state and its institutions and defeat the RSF’s scheme,” he said, adding that the RSF had committed crimes against humanity, ethnic cleansing, and genocide.

Burhan expressed confidence that the forum would produce recommendations to support the Sudanese people’s aspirations to rebuild their country and achieve real development that contributes to enhancing the stability of the region.

On his visit to Egypt, he was accompanied by the undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Hassan al-Amin, and the director of the General Intelligence Service, Ahmed Ibrahim Mufaddal.
