Sudanese delegation from disputed region meets US, regional body officials
NAIROBI, March 18, 2004 (SUNA) — A delegation of Abyei, disputed central Sudan area, currently on a visit to Naivasha, Kenya, has explained to the American envoys to the Sudanese peace negotiations the stances of Abyei’s people of Missayriyah and Dinka in supporting peace and rejecting war which hinders the process of development, peace and accord.
The delegation explained to the US envoys the facts of the area, its geography, its political and social history and integrated tribal composition that has common vision and destiny.
Meanwhile, the delegation met Inter-Governmental Authority on Development (IGAD) Envoy for peace in Sudan Gen Lazarus Sumbeiywo and expressed appreciation for the efforts of IGAD for realizing peace in Sudan. The delegation explained the stance of the people of Abyei and their vision on the peace process.
