Inflation continues gradual decline in Sudan
November 14, 2024 (KHARTOUM) – Sudan’s annual inflation rate eased slightly to 211.48% in October, down from 215.52% in September and 218.18% in August, the Central Bureau of Statistics said on Wednesday.
The inflation rate compares prices in the current month to the same month a year earlier.
“The rate of change in the general level of prices in October rose by 211.48% compared to the same month last year,” the bureau said in a statement seen by Sudan Tribune.
The data showed that urban inflation rose by 175.17% year-on-year in October, while rural inflation increased by 236.49%.
Inflation rose in October in the states of River Nile, Al Jazirah, and Blue Nile compared to September, while it decreased in other states.
The highest inflation rate in October was recorded in River Nile state at 495.43%, while the lowest was in West Darfur state at 80.60%.
The statistics bureau tracks inflation based on the prices of 663 commodities across 12 categories, including food and beverages, tobacco, clothing, housing, and transportation.
Millions of Sudanese have lost their livelihoods and sources of income due to the ongoing conflict, pushing up the number of people facing hunger to 25.6 million, with 8.5 million nearing famine, according to the United Nations.
