November 20, 2024 (JUBA) – South Sudan’s President Salva Kiir has sacked the Commissioner General of the South Sudan Revenue Authority (SSRA), Africano Mande, appointing Simon Akuei Deng as his successor.

Kiir’s decree was announced on the state-owned television (SSBC) on Wednesday.

The decree did not mention why the SSRA Commissioner General was sacked.

Akuei, the Secretary General of the South Sudan National Chamber of Commerce and Industry, joins SSRA at a time when the country is grappling with economic challenges.

Revenues from oil account for at least 98 percent of South Sudan’s annual budget.

The SSRA is the revenue service of the South Sudan Government; it is a non-oil Revenue collecting body that was established in 2016 under the National Revenue Authority Act, 2016. Its branches include, but are not limited to domestic tax division and customs division.
