Sudan’s El Fasher hospital damaged in renewed clashes
November 28, 2024 (EL FASHER) – Fighting between Sudan’s army and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) intensified in El Fasher on Thursday, with airstrikes and artillery fire hitting a major hospital and raising fears of casualties.
The Sudanese air force launched three raids on RSF positions north of the city, according to local sources who spoke to Sudan Tribune. The RSF retaliated with heavy artillery shelling from the northeast, targeting the city centre and western districts.
The Saudi Hospital in western El Fasher sustained significant damage in the bombardment. This vital medical facility has been repeatedly caught in the crossfire since the conflict erupted six months ago. The extent of casualties from the latest attack remains unclear.
“The bombing continues and is renewed now,” said the El Fasher Resistance Committees Coordination in a statement. “El Fasher has been bombed for a year continuously without media coverage.”
The violence in El Fasher, the largest city in Sudan’s Darfur region, has raged since May, displacing tens of thousands of residents.
Separately, Adam Rijal, spokesman for the General Coordination of Displaced Persons and Refugee Camps in Darfur, reported that the Sudanese military carried out airstrikes on the city of Kabkabiya, approximately 155 kilometres (96 miles) west of El Fasher, on Thursday morning.
