Ethiopia’s decision to withdraw from Somalia could be true?
By Ibrahim A. Ibrahim
December 9, 2008 — When Ethiopia invaded Somalia, it justified the invasion stating that “The Islamic Court, are going to wage a holy war against Ethiopia, and we have to defend our country…” but not that long it changed to “Ethiopia entered Somalia at the invitation of the internationally recognized government of Somalia…..” it is worth remembering that it also said its troops will withdraw with in weeks of the invasion.
Then the scenario changed to “until a peace keeping mission is coming to replace Ethiopian army….” contradiction over contradiction. This is not new to those who follow the minority regime in Ethiopia’s political and military game. For sure no one will assume that they have military and political long and short term strategy. If there is one it must be fiasco or is relied on cheating fabricating and distorting the truth.
Not of surprise but recently the regime in Ethiopia is biting a drum of vacating or withdrawing it’s military from Somalia, accusing the same Somali government who once being the internationally recognized who invited Ethiopia’s invasion calling upon help for the sake of the Somali citizens, of being irresponsible and selfish. Well, can this be true? Did the regime in Ethiopia find out just now? Or was that the same reason that the Somali people sided with their own “Islamic Court movement” and at least they had peace in their neighborhoods. Let the reader analyze the scenario before and after Ethiopia’s invasion and its reasons.
If the minority regime in Addis upholds at least this time their words it is only 20 days left to vacate. However, this raises a lot of unanswered questions.
Can the regime in Ethiopia be trusted to uphold its words?
The regimes record show otherwise. The regime is known for its deception, deceitful, and distorting the truth. So, until it is proofed the minority regime may change its mind at any time and can not be trusted.
Is the regime will be accounted for its act of atrocities?
Definitely the minority regime in Addis should be accountable for all of its deeds in Somalia. Thousands of peaceful citizens have been killed. Hundreds of thousands have been forced out of their homes and are living in empty barren lands, without basic necessities for life as such water and food. Thousands became victims of being Somali citizens.
If the world community is lacking of taking necessary measures to hold accountable for the mayhem committed in Somalia, it is creating never last animosity between the two neighborly peoples of Somalia and Ethiopia.
The Somali citizens and peace loving world community hope that Ethiopia will depart immediately, and people will go back to their life. Equally, the minority regime has to be responsible for their crimes in Somalia.
For the Somali citizens they have to learn from what is happening to them since the fall of their former President Siad Barre that include invasion of Ethiopia and the consequences. The Somali citizens first and foremost are the owners of their own destiny. Unless otherwise learn from their damaging mistakes and come together unified for the sake of their people, they will be victims of the minority regime in Addis and with that their masters who may not want Somalia’s peace and harmony.
