December 5, 2024 (ENTEBBE) – A Sudanese civilian coalition is exploring the possibility of forming a government in exile, a move that has sparked internal disagreement.

Sources within the Tagadum coalition told Sudan Tribune that a political coordination mechanism was formed Thursday to study the Revolutionary Front’s proposal. Most members of the coalition’s leadership body rejected the proposal.

The mechanism will also communicate with groups outside of Tagadum, including the Communist and Arab Ba’ath Socialist parties, the Sudan Liberation Movements led by Abdel Wahid Nur, and the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-North led by Abdel Aziz al-Hilu.

Tagadum is also considering expanding its structure, the source said.

The coalition concluded meetings in Entebbe, Uganda, on Thursday and plans to hold a news conference on Friday.

A political vision paper discussed Thursday outlined the need to prosecute those responsible for human rights violations, achieve justice, surrender individuals wanted by the International Criminal Court, and hold Islamists accountable for their role in the ongoing conflict.

The paper, which was approved Thursday, condemned all violations against civilians and demanded an immediate end to the violence. It also called for the establishment of safe zones to protect civilians and ensure aid reaches those in need.
