Sudan and Russia to cooperate against transnational crimes
December 11, 2008 (MOSCOW) — Sudan and Russia agreed to cooperate against transnational crime. A meeting would be held soon in Moscow next year will discuss the details of this cooperation.
The transnational describes crimes that are not only international but crimes that by their nature involve border crossings as an essential part of the criminal activity.
The Russian minister of Interior, Rashid Nurgaliyev, discussed the issue with the Sudanese Ambassador in Moscow, Siraj Eddine Hamid Youcef on Wednesday. A Sudanese delegation is expected to visit the country next year, the Russian interior ministry said without elaborating when it would take place.
“The two men reiterated their interest in the readiness of the countries to hold the first meeting of the Russian-Sudanese working group on the coordination of joint measures against transnational organised crime in the near future.
Sudanese delegation will be headed by the director-general of Sudan’s Police Force, Mohamed Najeeb Al-Tayeb.
The two sides also noted growing bilateral cooperation in the police sphere. The Sudanese Ambassador also showed interest in intensifying police logistics cooperation, an official from the Russian Interior Ministry said.
Nurgaliyev invited a delegation of Sudan’s Interior Ministry to visit the Moscow 13th International Exhibition Interpolitekh next year.
Some officials from the Russian Interior Ministry are currently in Khartoum to provide assistance to the Sudanese Interior Ministry in organizing the work of the road police and of the passport and visa services.
