December 15, 2008 (KHARTOUM) – The Sudanese army announced today that it will conduct exercises using air force near the twin capital city of Omdurman.
The spokesperson of the Sudanese army Dr. Osman Al-Agbash said that the exercises under the name ‘Dawn is one’ will commence December 20th west of Omdurman in the area of Um-Sayala.
The spokesperson urging the civilian population to be prudent and stay away from the area between the 16th-22nd December.
Since last May bold raid by a Darfur rebel movement, Justice and Equality Movement (JEM) the Sudanese authorities boosted the defense of the capital and operated several joint military exercises.
Recently Sudanese authorities stated that they will construct a ditch surrounding Omdurman as a precaution from another attack. However many observers in Khartoum questioned the effectiveness of such an approach.
Al-Agbash said that the upcoming exercises will utilize fighter jets, bombers, air transport, artillery and air defenses.
Khartoum is believed to be working on modernizing its air force through forging agreements with Russia, China and Pakistan.
Following the JEM attack, Sudanese lawmakers issued a report that was not made public criticizing the army’s performance and recommended that Defense minister be removed.

that is a clear message from NCP to Darfuris as well as southerners. I would like to call upon the real Sudanese to be fully aware of ( Al manorat al askeria) being conducted by Arab, this decision is only to scare ICC so as to suspend it decision about Bashir arrest warrant. Let’s be ready for anything.

Hi Guys !!
I don’t think the daily military routine for our national army is scary to some of us. We hope SDF together with SPLA always stay alert and strong. We have the biggest country that needs 4 or 5 strong armies to defend its vast borders if our wished unity dream has comes true. We are looking forward for much stronger unified army in Africa and the Middle East just to denfend our country.
