Chadian president expresses readiness to assist in solving Darfur conflict

KHARTOUM, March 20, 2004 (SUNA) — The Chadian president, Idriss Deby, expressed readiness to continue his contacts with the different parties of Darfur leaderships, who are still refusing to enter into the peace process, saying that he will coordinate with the government in this regard.

This was announced by the minister of foreign affairs, Dr Mustafa Uthman Isma’il, who concluded Friday a one-day visit to N’djamena during which he briefed the Chadian President on the situations in Darfur. Dr Isma’il said that President Deby would patronize the conference for peace and development in Darfur States.

He added that he conveyed a message from President Al-Bashir to his Chadian counterpart, affirming the government’s keenness to achieve stability in GDS and acquainted him with the efforts being exerted by the government and the international community organizations in order to provide the affected people with the necessary humanitarian assistance.

President Al-Bashir praised the efforts of President Idriss Deby and Chad’s hosting of Sudanese refugees who left to Chad as a result of the situations in Darfur, added the minister.

Dr Isma’il further explained that the Chadian president asked him to convey a message to President Al-Bashir, expressing his appreciation over the efforts being exerted to restore stability in Darfur.
