December 16, 2008 (BOR TOWN) — Jonglei Governor Kuol Manyang Juuk said today he will adhere to South Sudan President Kiir Mayardit’s call for SPLA affairs minister “as already listed and approached” for the position which fall vacant following May 2 plane’s crash that killed Dominic Deim Deng.

Speaking to Sudan Tribune in his office on Tuesday, Gov. Kuol Manyang disclosed that he had been approached by GoSS President Salva Kiir Mayardit to fill the post of Sudan People’s Liberation Army Affairs Minister and accepted the assignment.

“As the head of Government of Southern Sudan, I have to respect any assignment he gives to me including being laid off and go home,” he said referring to the call to lead SPLA and quitting Governorship; the position he held for the last for twelve (12) months.

Manyang further says he is comfortable as a governor and wouldn’t bother when he will take the long vacant office. Dominic Deim Deng, the late SPLA Affairs Minister was killed in plane crash on May 2, 2008 while returning to Juba from Bar-al-Ghazal region.

On June 4, 2008, Gov. Kuol downplayed the alleged appointment saying he is “a military freedom-fighter who turned full civilian on January 9th, 2005 (when peace returned to Sudan), adding “President of Government of Southern Sudan, 1st Lt. Gen. Kiir Mayardit never told me about such decision.”

Now approached, the long time SPLM/A men, is ready to take the Southern Sudan military wing with commitment. “What is important to me is to work but not the position,” he said.

2nd Lt. Gen. Kuol Manyang Juuk, an active SPLM/A veteran since 1983 when the war of liberation commenced in Bor, also served as Minister for Roads and Transport, Government of National Unity before his position was swapped with former Government Philip Thon Leek. Governor Kuol won being father of academicians at Dr. John Garang de Mabior Institute of Science and Technology in Bor as students attributed his1987 sending of children to Ethiopia ‘the beginning take all children to school program.’

Today’s revelation by Governor Kuol Manyang that he could move to the military had being the centre of discussion in Jonglei capital Bor Town. Some residents say Gov. Kuol’s transfer may directly affect the surging raiding and halt the progressive development.

“This is a blow to Jonglei State because security will fall. He is leaving in us the middle of a sea,” a resident identified as Mabior said. “What can we do? It is the Government of Southern Sudan to send a right person,” a man reacted to the news of Kuol exit from Jonglei State. “He should always think about the plans he had laid,” another one observed.

Asked whether he has knowledge about the possible successor, he says the task is beyond his mandate. “It is not my duty to choose the next governor. I think the President may collect public opinion to appoint the next governor,” he said adding “this, I think, is the reason why he [Kiir] is taking long to tell the date I will leave the State.”

Kuol says constitutionally his deputy Hussien Mar may lead the State for the meantime could his appointment be effective before a successor is selected.

That is big news and good Chrismas gift to the people of Southern Sudan; but Gen. Kuol should have waited until the announcement comes out from the GOSS President himself. It remains now unofficial.

If it becomes official, Hon. Hussein Maar Nyot should not be by pass and the seat given to another from Lou, Hussein is more than qualified and should be given this chance; Gen. Kuol need to push this man to his chair.

I have no doubt otherwise that Gen. Kuol is the man for that job and crooks at the army top are beginning to shiver now.

Yes corruptees, killers, liars, sadist and barbaric actors, you can fill the whole positions with your mongrels junglese. How about tomorrow. Koul your suppose to finish the collection of the rubbish in your jungle not claiming a position of SPLA/M Affair minsiter. Inexperience and liars are after leadership which is all about getting money not about doing your duty. This spirit of Kiir’s corruption will one day be brough to feet. Things are always done in triblism manner, University students in Uganda were all dinka and now the positions are to be occupied by dudes. Mr Koul leaving your bor will lead to madness of your people, probably the murle will get ride of their chidren including your children Mr Koul, unless you hide yours in Uganda or Ethiopia.

SHAME SHAME SHAME ON YOU DUDE

Logic have come to approve James as an adopted child to murle from Equatorian, when his parents were taking the courage of saving the people of junglese from arabs. Now James has the opportunity to claim himself as nephew to Equatorian.

I welcome Kuol Manyang Juuk to lead the SPLA for the institution has been failed by corrupt officers for long. God, you have mercy on your people and gave this wise decision to Kiir Mayardit. This is the first clear direction Kiir have ever taken since 2005.

With General Kuol Manyang heading for SPLA office, people of Jonglei State will miss his practical zero tolerance to corruption, freedom of press and commitment to serve his people. SPLA senior corruption officers on the other hand should begin shriveling because ngutu lo bab aya ngda..(son of the soil has come)…

God bless Gen. Kuol..Lead the Southern Army to modern form. The military is half-dead unless you work extra hard…

    Shameless Logic-Boy

I am ashamed by my possible tribesman Logic-Boy. Your comments are always unproductive. For instance, I know how much Equotorians feels cheated in the government of Self-Services but when dealing with national issues, no one can challenge Kuol credibility to lead the army. Let’s criticize when deed obligatory…

I hope it works son of a dog

That is big news and a true gift for this Chrismas; Gen. Kuol however should have waited for the President of GOSS to announce it. It remains then unofficial until that time

But if it becomes official, Hon. Hussien Maar Nyot is the right candidate to succceed Gen. Kuol in governorship. Lou must not give this position to another.

I know now that the top crooks generals are begining to shiver; yeah, Lorengarot come on.

    Mr. Logic

Please go to the toilet in hurry and poop I think you have cassava-related stomachache.

    For others

Koul is a real hero, I personally respect him through his duties. I like him to remain as Jongolei governor, but because southern Sudan need somebody with special military skills, I deeply prefer him to head the army in order to sponsor our survival from the northern notorious enemy.

I hope the Jongolei citizens will be filed by the holy spirit that allow them to recognize the importance of peace among themselve and therefore co-exist in harmony.

    I hope God bless Jongolei

Greatly as a southern sudanese i’m so happy with the appointment of the southern sudan defence minister Kuol Manyang Juuk to fill the vacant.Well our current condition in the sudan as the marginalised people in the nation is still looming at hand but some few southerners think taking positions of leadership in limited time of breath of CPA as lasting peace forgetting what happened when peace was signed in the early 70’s in adis ababa it was underestimated by the enemies of peace. After CPA,southerners resorted to leadership struggle, corruption and tribalism forgetting promoting unity which is our strength. If we don’t inculcate the culture of togetherness and be one as united state of southern sudan then all the struggle which we make will be doomed to failure and tomorrow’s suffering after enjoying the 6 years of the signed CPA which USA,UK and other nations had brokered considering the endless suffering of the southerners during the 21 years of civil war with the Northerners for freedom, equality and development in the nation.southerners have forgotten their terrible suffering and resorted to tribalism in offering government positions.Assuming again the peace collapse how will you convince you people to join you to persude your right and freedom back from the enemy.Everybody is a leader so long as he has the qualities not that i fought in the liberation of southern sudan i should be a leader that’s mediocre reasoning. There must be change in mind and idealogy brought about by many leaders of southern sudan who are illiterate put there to spread tribalsm and hatred among their southerners.’illiterate and tribalistic leaders of southern sudan must change now for united southern sudan.I condemn LADO who knew nothing and claim to know the politics of sudan. No tribe or community were created in southern southern to rule and others to be ruled that is illitracy.Stop all those barbaric idealogies and reform now to bring united states of southen sudan as united states of America,so then will everlasting peace will come to southern sudan.

I agree with you totally, these three people are all competent. Jongolei need high ranking known general who can deal with those criminals accordingly. Anyway, let see these three people one by one:

    Maker Thiong

Maker Tniong is a honest and respectful human being of all time. Maker is the person without single cell of tribalism in him, I always praise Maker for what he did to me personally and also to many others. Maker can be qualified to lead Jongolei and I do support him 100%.

    Ismael Konyi

Ismael is also honest person who will not load public office with his tribe men, he is a person feared by Murle and with the help of GOSS he can deal with Murle criminals accordingly without doubt and no one in Murle will open his mouth.

Ismael also was Jonglei former governor, I think he may know what is needed of him. Ismael according to us who know him is very good person and his credentials need to be tested at this time of the peace for all southerners to know him better. I think he can be qualified.

    John Koung

John Koung is also very nice human being on eartth according to what I heard from others because I don’t know him personally as I know those two above.

John was also upper Nile governor and I think he will be familiar with what he can do as a governor so he is also qualified.

Therefore let all wait and see who is who that Kiir is going to nominate to lead Jongolei.

    I hope that work well

    God bless

Kuol Manyang is the right man for the job. He is committed, corruption free, unionist and outstanding state man.Jonglei should not hesitate his appointment to the position of ministry of SPLA affairs for the nation is bigger than state.SPLA will have a reason to smile for such a wonderful Christmas gift. they have been victims of corruption since peace was ushered in in 2005.however, i want to urge logic and the rest for their negative attitude of always standing out to find reasons to divide people of the south Sudan. it will never bear fruit if you do not give this a full stop. we are one and we should not comment on anything on our tribal lines. this absolutely betrays youth that they will not make good leaders in future.there is therefore a need for a change. southern Sudan will not be governed by those who divide people according to tribes……… moreover the current dupty governor of Jonglei is the next man for the job for he has no trace of blame.
