December 25, 2024 (SHENDI) – At least 10 paramilitary fighters allied with Sudan’s army were killed and others wounded in a Rapid Support Forces (RSF) drone attack on a training camp on Wednesday, a local official said.

The attack targeted the Al-Ma’aqil camp, located approximately 35 kilometres (22 miles) southeast of Shendi in River Nile state. The camp houses recruits from eastern Al Jazirah State and fighters from allied movements undergoing military training.

The RSF launched over 10 suicide drones at the camp. The Sudanese army’s 3rd Infantry Division said it shot down most unmanned aircraft.

Al-Amin Mohamed Al-Imam, alternate head of the Popular Resistance in Shendi locality, confirmed the attack and the death toll in an audio recording. He said the bodies of 10 fighters were transported to the morgue in Shendi.

Four of the dead were identified as being from the village of Sheikh Maki in eastern Al Jazirah.

Shendi, along with the cities of Al-Damar and Atbara, has been targeted by RSF drone attacks in the past. Previous attacks have focused on the 3rd Infantry Division headquarters, government buildings in Al-Damar, and Atbara Airport.
