Over 100,000 displaced in Blue Nile state due to RSF attacks
December 31, 2024 (AD DAMAZIN) – The government of Blue Nile state in southeastern Sudan announced on Tuesday that over 100,000 people have been displaced towards the city of Ad Damazin due to attacks by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) on areas in the western part of the state.
Since last October, large areas in the Blue Nile region have suffered from attacks launched by the RSF from the localities of Al Dali and Al Mazmum in the neighbouring Sennar state. The RSF forces have taken control of areas such as “Jirwa, Quli, Bout” and several areas in the At-Tadamun district.
“Government statistics indicate that more than 100,000 displaced people have arrived in Ad Damazin from the western region, in addition to the presence of 12 others from the Bau locality,” said Arafat Al-Sadiq, Humanitarian Aid Commissioner for the Blue Nile State government, in statements reported by Al Hadath TV.
He explained that the displaced reside in two camps and 12 shelters and urgently need health and food interventions.
The Commissioner appealed to all local and international organizations to intervene, as the situation in the Blue Nile region requires further assistance.
He indicated that the Blue Nile authorities have begun coordinating directly with organizations concerned with the humanitarian situation and have provided some care to the displaced in the camps and shelters.
