Sudanese govt. delegation backs to peace talks in Kenya

KHARTOUM, Mar 21, 2004 (Xinhua) — The Sudanese government delegation returned to Nairobi, Kenya late Sunday to resume talks with the rebel Sudanese People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM), local press reported.

Kenya has been hosting the Sudanese peace negotiation in a bid to end one of the longest African conflicts.

According to the reports, the Sudanese government negotiators returned home on Saturday for consultations on US proposals on the disputed Abiye, which the government negotiating team had hit a dead end with the SPLM.

After the delegation’s return, Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir chaired a meeting later in the day with a number of cabinet ministers, leaders of the ruling National Congress and commanders of the armed forces.

No more details are available yet about the meeting. But the Cabinet Affairs Minister Al-Hadi Abdullah has said that the government of Sudan would not give away rights in Abiye and an agreement would be reached.
