January 4, 2024 (KHARTOUM) – Shelling by Sudan’s Rapid Support Forces (RSF) killed four civilians and wounded 43 others in Omdurman on Saturday, the Khartoum state health ministry said.

The RSF has continued to bombard areas under army control in the city, including hospitals and public transport, since conflict erupted in April between the paramilitary force and the army.

The ministry said the shelling hit the Wad al-Bakhit suburb of Omdurman. Twenty-two of the wounded were taken to al-No Teaching Hospital, seven to Abu Saad Hospital and 14 to al-Ban Jadeed Hospital.

The RSF has been accused of committing widespread abuses during the conflict, including mass killings, rape and torture.

The state government has set up a temporary headquarters in Karari locality, which is considered one of the safest areas in Khartoum. Despite the ongoing fighting, the government is trying to maintain basic services.
