Sudan tries a man accused of spying for the ICC

December 22, 2008 (KHARTOUM) – A Sudanese man appeared in court today in Khartoum North accused of collecting some documents on a minister suspected of Darfur crimes and passing it to the International Criminal Court (ICC).

Mohamed Alsary Ibrahim is the first person to be prosecuted for cooperating with the ICC and faces the death penalty if found guilty.

An army intelligence officer, Omar Abdel Faraj, who witnessed against Ibrahim before the court, told the judges that the suspect had offered money to obtain documents incriminating the state minister for humanitarians affairs Ahmed Haroun.

The security officer said Ibrahim tried to solicit information about special police in Darfur, men trained and paid by the government and supervised by the former state minister of Interior.

On April 27, 2008, the ICC judges issued an arrest warrant for Haroun and Ali Kushayb, a militia leader. However Sudan rejected to cooperate avec the ICC and hand over the two suspects.

Haroum is accused of being responsible of the mobilisation of militias to quell the rebellion. But he denied the charges of mass killings of civilians and rape.

The security officer, Faraj, accused Ibrahim of approaching an officer in Sudan’s Popular Police Force in June and asked his help to get hold of documents on training camps run by the organisation in Darfur.

He said Faraj had been in contact with a Jordanian and three Sudanese Americans, one of them his cousin, who were allegedly trying to help him pass the secrets to the ICC.

He added that they found evidence that Ibrahim had emailed a number of documents to his Sudanese Americans contacts who had asked him for documents that the ICC could use.

Ibrahim faces seven charges under Sudanese criminal law including working to overthrow the constitutional government, waging war against the state, dealing with an enemy country, spying and passing on confidential military documents.

It is good to kill, but it is painful when the killing is turning into your ribs. Why should Mohamed Alsary faces the death penalty if found guilty? Your sadist spirit will not offer you any chance of escaping from ICC trape. This is a worse culture ever that you taught to dinkas and now they spreading it across other areas in South Sudan. Committing crimes in face of public, but anyone can not have a power to say a words. I don’t know if a human call arab will improve their way of life and beliefs. Just see yourselves as uncivilised people, how can a well trained journalist throw a shoe to a head of states and your own masters who struggle day and night to stop the mess killing of your people. Thesame to your dolt culture, how can a teacher beat a student to death if your wise enoughtl . This fake shria law of yours will one day get smashed on your face.

    Hello Golden Boys,

I could not see the connection between this article and Dinka when we all know that Dinkas do not collaborate with the enemy. We should not forget that Dinkas have fought this real enemy of the nation for the good 22 years without looking at their backs and this is what we should always be proud of and give them (Dinka) some credits they deserve in this nation. Mr Logic_Boy, you need to read the article again and comment when you really get what the article tries to portray to the readers

I can not remember when was the last time I commented on the web here. But is not my intention today to comment on this article. I have and always read a lots of inspiring news here that could quickly stimulate my mind to comment however, i refused to do so because of the ways some of the people I always believe in them as human beings comments/bring people down particularly Mr Logic Boy . He always gives and leaves negative comments and this will sometimes have nasty smell/sting if we will not be very carefully.

My intention today is to let the world know specially the France agent which controls this website to notify this person that his comments have reached everybody heart. Mr. Logic must be advised and warned again if possible/necessary despite the already given to avoid diverting the article. we all know that Logic you are intelligent like some of us but how do you feel when each and everyone of us responds to your comments instead of the article?
