Sudan and Egypt agree to hasten implementation of joint projects

December 25, 2008 (CAIRO) — The Sudanese Minister of Finance and National Economy Awad Ahmed Al-Jaz and Fayza Naga Egyptian Minister of International Cooperation agreed to accelerate the implementation of joint projects.

The two ministers in a meeting at the sidelines of Cairo’s Third Investment Forum discussed ways of developing bilateral relations between the two countries and the implementation of decisions of the sixth session of the Egyptian-Sudanese Joint High Committee held in Alexandria last July.

After the meeting, the finance minister said that it had been agreed to make the necessary efforts to speed up implementation of the strategic cooperation projects that have been decided between the two countries and to achieve tangible progress on the ground, especially in light of the current global financial crisis.

Abu Naga said it had been agreed to give priority to the Sudanese side to financing strategic projects endorsed by the Supreme Committee in its recent session, specially the project for the manufacture and export of meat, as well as strategic agricultural projects in the states of Aljazeera and Sinnar and the project of biodiesel production.

The Egyptian minister further underscored the need to implement road projects between the two countries saying they are crucial to the flow of trade and investment.

She added that Egypt completed the construction of its part (140km) of the coastal road project Port Sudan – Suez of 280 km. also Egypt ended the construction of its share (36km) in Wadi Halfa road (56km), Abu Naga said.
