Zain-Sudan Telecom exceeds 5mn Subscribers
December 27 (KHARTOUM) — The Sudanese branch of the Kuwaiti Mobile Telecommunications Co (Zain) said today it exceeded five million subscribers in 22 months of commercial service.
Zain Sudan was launched in February 2006 by absorbing the former state operator, Mobitel.
Managing Director of Zain-Sudan, Elfatih Erwa, who announced the figure to the media on Saturday, pointed out that the company plans to raise the number of subscriber up to seven million by 2009.
The mobile communications company contributes to pushing forward the Sudanese national economy, he said, adding that it had injected USD 3.5 billion in the country over the past three years.
Zain provides unique and practical communication services, covering most Sudanese states through over 1,700 antenna towers, he stressed.
In April 2008, Zain launched its services in southern Sudan. The company is now operating in the ten southern Sudan states.
The Kuwaiti company is now servicing over 50 million customers in 22 countries across 14 African nations and 7 countries in the Middle East.
