December 27, 2008 (JUBA) — The Vice –President of the semi-autonomous Government of Southern Sudan, Riek Machar Teny, is touring the southern states and counties during the Christmas and New Year holidays to share the celebrations with the states’ citizens and to assess the general situation on the ground.
He was accompanied to the states by senior Government and SPLA officials.
Machar’s first leg was in Jonglei state where he stayed in Pibor County for three days from December 24 – 27 and celebrated the Christmas Day with them as well as discussed wide-range of issues with the County authorities.
Issues tackled included maintenance of peace and security with neighbors of the Murle community, execution of plans for effective disarmament of the civil population in the area, utilization towards development of the available resources in the County and implementation of the expected GoSS development projects in the area.
The Vice President unveiled the GoSS road project to commence in January 2009 that would link the Pibor County with Boma, Akobo, Pochalla and Bor County, which also serves as the Jonglei’s state capital. He also said GoSS has secured a foreign company to improve the conditions of the Boma National Park located in the Pibor County and which is also the largest animal park in Southern Sudan that can attract tourists.
Machar also unveiled other projects on health and education and urged the Murle community to send all children to school irrespective of gender.
He called on the County population to cooperate with the companies that will implement development projects in the hot spot area.
Machar strongly urged the Murle community to live peacefully and in harmony with its neighboring communities and to stop cattle raiding and child abduction, which the community has been accused of many times.
AT LEAST SIX (6) ABDUCTED CHILDREN RELEASED
The visit to the County by the Vice President also brought happiness and Christmas gift to families as National Security organs and the Pibor County administration recovered six (6) abducted children who were handed over to the Vice President on 25th December, Christmas Day.
The children were previously abducted more than a month ago by Murle cattle raiders, probably from Central Equatoria state as they speak Bari language, except one suspected to be from Budy County of Eastern Equatoria state.
The County Legal Councilor, George Samuel Latio, said the abducted children were handed over to Dr. Machar to have them re-unite with their families.
The recovered children were identified as (1) Richard George, 5 years old, (2) Martha William, 4 years old, (3) Mam, 4 years old, (4) Robert Lokiliri, 5 years old, (5) Lorin Korok, 5 years old, and (6) Two-year old girl unable to name herself.
These all six children were flown to Juba on Friday, 26th December, by a special plane from Pibor County of Jonglei state and were accommodated in the house of the Vice President in Juba after their arrival prior to arrangements to re-unite them with their respective families.

What a implausible gift to those families whose children been abducted brought to them by Honorable VP. Dr. Machar! Dr. Riek Machar’s genuine and humanity really shows his willingness towards stable and long lasting peace in S. Sudan. Regardless of partisanship and tribal line, we must really appreciate his willingness toward stability in Sudan, patricianly, S. Sudan.

My first appreciation to Mr Riek for the first time in history. This is how we need you as our leaders to work toward this country, and you should not jump to slove an easy case on the county level rather than on the district level like those in Yei, Juba, Nimule and etc. If that is how you begin your foundation, than we are waiting to see you approaching other concern areas aswell. I do understand the tempestuous of murle and bor (junglese) against the people of Greater Equatori and their environment. However as genuine people we should just ignore some of the matters, because those childrens were lost to murle during their attacked in CES which was once reported but not taken as a serious case. Equatorians are honesty and civilised people because they deserve peace in their land. Since their attacked by those barbarbic people of James, nothing was done to them and thesame to those junglese in Nimule, Yei and Juba. They are far from human characters, but nothing was done. However they need to understand their own fault and particularly their toughest culture which was taught to them by their enslave jallaba. Don’t be the darkest communities in South, act like others and behave according to the standard. Those childrens might be for Amule who is uncle to James.

Where in the world the Vice president of the country accepts slaves as Chrismas’s gift inside his own territory of jurisdiction. It’s painful and saddening to see Dr. Riak Machar teny playing politics with a shameful security problem in the South. Dr. Riak should have asked for perpetrators and fly them to Juba instead. Also, he should have ordered Pibor county officials to find families of the children and hand them over their poor children within a week. Riak Machar acted inappropriately and his act this will not end the practice (slavery) in the county, but it will only encourage more perpetrators to commit abduction and enslaving of the children.

Iknow here some people with tribalistic mentality, their looking only withinthe context of their tribe no further, off cause people know them now days, feeling jeolous don’t wan’t to appreciate the good work that you did. you deserves a big credit and applause.
when you are doing good job of uniting people together, they were planning trible grouping. One of the Dinka boy say this is “inapproprate” just out of hatred. this the same way. They put general Mabutu Mamur in jail, just because he was trying to unit all Southerners as one. because Some Dinkers commanders don’t have that knowledge of uniting people, sharing, loving, protecting people different from their tribe. That’s a new things to them to live in a diversity community.
One Dr, Garang talled them to learn good culture from Equatoria the place they were displaced in, but they learn nothing. I think, staying with caws bagaraats, sing to them most of their time blocked their sense of humanity

So, leave Dr, Mashar to do the good job. If you hate him just because of his tribe.
This is a time of making friend’s, good politics with each tribe what ever their number is, small or a big tribe their votes is very very much important as to gain political support, in a democratic GOvernment.
So, Dinka Cheifs (SALATEEN)must revise their doctrines, by asking questions to them selves. Why Dinkas fail to make friendships with any tribe in the South?, and what is the future political consequencies on their tribe in the South??. If Americans itself were looking for friends across the world!!!! by making a distinct i.e election of An African American (minority) to rule them (Whites) the (majority)!.
finally, my advice to fellow dinkas as follows, try to be liberal of your own, think by yourself, don’t let any (TOR)(leader) to direction your thinking. criticisms apply to your leaders through this critical thinking you were promoting your individualism characteristics. This is exactly what the phylosophy western world have used until today to develop their nations. And this is a cultural stage of development in the history of humanity.
Keep a good work Dr. Mashar. the next move is hundle the IDP’s issues openly wisely as you rescued this little kids from their cuptives. This is how history and frienships people need all over the world than to stay closed within your tribes mades only what other people thinks will be save in the big Southern society to come in the near future.
