Abdelatty met with the Chairman of Sudan’s Sovereign Council, Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, and Sudanese Foreign Minister Ali Youssif. Discussions focused on efforts to reinstate Sudan’s AU membership, the welfare of Sudanese citizens residing in Egypt, and the upcoming convening of a bilateral political consultation committee.
This marks Abdelatty’s second official visit to Sudan in two months, underscoring Egypt’s active engagement in the region.
Egyptian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Tamim Khalaf said Abdelatty emphasized Egypt’s unwavering solidarity with Sudan and its support for the country’s stability, security, sovereignty, and territorial integrity.
Abdelatty detailed Egypt’s efforts to promote stability in Sudan and facilitate its return to the AU. He welcomed the Sovereign Council’s decisions to expedite the delivery of humanitarian aid within Sudan.
Khalaf added that Abdelatty also highlighted the facilities provided by Egypt to Sudanese citizens residing in the country, pending their return home once security and stability are restored.
The Sudanese Foreign Ministry said in a statement that Minister Ali Youssif discussed bilateral relations with his Egyptian counterpart, agreeing to activate all cooperation mechanisms between the two nations.
The talks resulted in an agreement to “hold a meeting of the political consultation committee between the foreign ministries of the two countries during February, and to hold the second session of the Sudanese-Egyptian Economic Forum in Sudan next April,” according to the Sudanese Foreign Ministry.
During the session, Youssif expressed gratitude for Egypt’s supportive stance towards Sudan in what he termed the “National Dignity War.” Abdelatty reiterated Egypt’s firm support for Sudan’s stability and unity, rejecting any interference in its internal affairs.
The two ministers also addressed consular issues. Youssif thanked Egypt for hosting a large number of Sudanese citizens and requested the facilitation of their immigration procedures.
Abdelatty affirmed his country’s commitment to the welfare of Sudanese residing in Egypt and announced the approval of the reopening of the Sudanese Consulate General in Alexandria, in accordance with arrangements agreed upon by both nations.
