Darfur JEM says deal with Kordofanese KAD still under discussion
January 3, 2009 (LONDON) — The rebel Justice and Equality Movement (JEM) retracted from a statement it had issued two day ago about a political and military cooperation agreement with the Kordofan Association Movement (KAD).
Abdullahi El-Tom, the head of JEM Bureau for Training and Strategic Planning, said the statement had been based on an internal note that inadvertently ended in a file dedicated to issue for circulation.
Ahmed Hussein Adam further added that the issue of joint action with the KAD is still under discussion; he reiterated the keenness of his movement to extend its relations with all the marginalized population in the Sudan.
The two movements agreed to “unify their military activities as of now and at all levels.” They also called on the other opposition movements to join them in order to form a government in exile, said a statement issued by JEM on January 1.
“I offer my sincerely apology to you, KAD and all news sites which carried the item,” said El-Tom.
KAD is a kodofanese movement formed in Belgium in April 2006 to defend the rights of development of this central Sudan province which lies between Darfur on the west and the valley of the White Nile River on the east.
