Kiir’s inconsistency decision.
By Butrus Ajak Deng
January 13, 2009 — I have been waiting for sometimes hoping and knowing his Excellency; President of South Sudan Kiir Mayardit will clarify the predicament which has been brought about by the appointment of Mr. Nhial Deng Nhial as the SPLA Affairs Minister prior to Kuol Manyang consultation to assume the same ministry by the President.
Nonetheless, the President is seen to be busy with his duties not interesting to know what was going on in Kuol’s mind. As well as public who were aware of such decision. Honestly, I personally support Nhial Deng Nhial to take-up that position I just hope he is also a right man for the job. Therefore, let no one misunderstood me for that matter. But, I tell you it is humiliating altogether the way it was done! Why was Kuol asked to fill in the position by the President when Nhial was known to be there? And furthermore, look, before General Kuol accepting or rejecting the offer, the same, same position was given to Nhial Deng Nhial without wasting time, how true was that Southerners? Where did this other decision come from? Is there someone deciding for our President? Probably, and absolutely yes, someone behind closed doors intentionally did this mess. What was everybody else seeing? Is that not humiliating? Dropping Kuol like that needs more clarification if we still respect our past performance.
In some ways, that appointment seemed to invite transgression in citizens. Kiir was not like that in the past. He was a reliable man. He was a true liberator who stayed firm and true to our cause (Southerners) though there were irregularities in SPLA leadership; Kiir was never inconsistent in his decision. What went wrong this phase God Knows!
As a concern citizen, I am all for the best of our small Country. Nhial’s choice for that sensitive position looked good. The only bad thing with that move, our poor President made his head around to choose the one he truth most, but, was marched down in his decision by unknown force. Which I think was inequitable because promising made by President to Kuol was one thing and actually staying true to his promise was somewhat another. And he has not done it, which made me very, very skeptical about his thoughts. And somehow, it is sending a message that our president is unreliable anymore. Lastly, I therefore suggest that, this unorganized appointment should not be allowed to repeat itself to anybody, be whoever in South Sudan. Kuol’s embarrassment and his supporters is enough. To correct it, I suggest President needs to let public know exactly how it happened it is vital at this stage, maybe you were right nobody knows. However, keeping quiet is hurting.
I have spoken and I hope Mr. President is listening, next time Mr. President let somebody advice you but not decide for you, they are tarnishing your reputation in the eye of public without you knowing about it.
