Sudan hands over corruption suspect to Ethiopia

By Tesfa-alem Tekle

January 17, 2009 (ADDIS ABABA) — Sudanese authorities this week handed over a corruption suspect whom Ethiopia had sought since his disappearance two months ago following a bank fraud, according to the Ethiopian Federal Ethics and Anti-corruption Commission (FEACC).

Ethiopian authorities accuse the man, Abebe, of defrauding over 6 million birr (600,000USD), working with a collaborator while he was working in one of the government-owned banks.

“The man is arrested in Sudan and handed over to Ethiopia. He had disappeared with $600,000 cash from a government bureau” a statement from FEACC said.

According to the commission a charge soon will be pressed against him and if convicted he will possibly face at least 15 years behind bars.

Ethiopia and Sudan, whose bilateral ties are now at their best, have agreed to exchange criminal suspects with one another.

But this is the first time a suspect to be handed over to Ethiopia from Sudan

Years ago Sudan refused Ethiopia’s request to hand over suspects who had attempted to assassinate Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak who was in Addis Ababa for an African summit.

A second suspect who collaborated in the fraud remains at large.

Established in May 2001 the federal Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission has played tremendous role in curbing corruption as part of Ethiopia’s efforts to bring lasting good governance.

It must justified, just because Amhara origin is more of Bantu featured Africans of light shades, like Igbo origins of southern delta of Nigeria, that they looks like immigrated each other, not just want Khartoum made initiatives with
Addis Ababa, but of nothing can close with any IRAQi Black origins of Nubian descents, originally of
    Dongolawi-Mahas Nobiin…
Let’s Bantu Africans play each other!
The Ethiops needs another Bob Marley again!
