Sudan NCP says elections win with SPLM crucial for CPA survival

January 27, 2009 (KHARTOUM) — A senior official at the ruling National Congress Party (NCP) said that the future of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA) is dependent upon the outcome of the upcoming elections.

The CPA signed in 2005 between the NCP and the Sudan People Liberation Movement (SPLM) provided for elections to be held no later than July 2009 as part of a democratic transition in the country

“If anyone wins this [elections] other than the NCP or the SPLM then the CPA would be placed in the garbage can” the NCP director of political communication Mandoor Al-Mahdi said at the party headquarters.

However Al-Mahdi stressed that the elections will be held in a “fair and free” manner.

“The NCP will accept the choices of the people if it resulted in a different outcome. The new formation will be diligent in preserving the agreement” he said.

Al-Mahdi also blamed the National Electoral committee for the delay in setting up a date for the next elections.

But observers raise doubts about the organization of the 2009 general elections. Last year a UN consultative team of experts advised the semi-autonomous southern Sudan government to postpone the next year general elections to November 2009 till the end of rainy season in order to avoid the logistical complications.

Furthermore the results of the fifth Sudan Population and Housing Census will not be released until next February. The constituencies are to be defined according to the number of population counted during the census

But the NCP has rejected any delays and Sudanese officials have insisted that any logistical issues could be overcome.

Kiir should be anxious about this. Why is Bashir so eager to have election held and not go to the Hague first??This is how he wants to acquire “LEGITIMACY” in killing the CPA getting away with the previous and present genocides so that unity is made “ATTRACTIVE”(forced unity on southerners).Of course they will play it the NCP style and needless to say,win it!And if i was Mr Kiir there’d be no better time than to have another alternative at my disposal, atleast to make unity unattractive. So mr murderer, tyrants of tyrants, stop your bravados and excitements about the election. If SpLM loses then SPLA wont!!!

ALL polices for his indication by ICC so that SPLA/M can rise their voices over his indication, sorry bashir. Unless a blind will trust this cruel man who call himself al bashir. The word “arabs” has more than 1000 or if in written form it is nearly to a Bible. To follow arabs or accepting unity is just like goingt to hell. Imagine we have heared and seem alot on the media such as in Iraq, Plastine, Afghan and others. So why do we want to be with such people anymore?

    Dear Arabs,

This is a right time to advice Omar meaning DONKEY the man is behaving exactly like a donkey. His characters are completely premature. We southerners are sick and tired of being ruled by the Northerners. It is either the NCP wins the election still SPLM must take the lead. Think of all presidents who ruled before mr Donkey came in. Who among those presidents is from the South if you can reason things properly. You are much concerned for 2009 election and you will remain hopeless for the rest of your life. SPLM OYEEEE! SOUTH SUDANESE OYEEEEE! LONG LIVE SOUTH SUDANESE OYEEEEEEE!

National Congress Party with its rhetoric is already known, and what they should understand the past is going to an end. these Generations are seeking the true, and it will set equality and justic. .National Islamic Fundamentalist should stop fool people for century. you can’t victimise your own civilian by using the Korana’s to set very naive strategy. let see if SPLM wins, there is nothing else they could aim rather than declaration of terrorism against innocence people. If Turabi did not achieve during last twenty-one years, then the National Congress Party with his members will have fail result. They should look back and change their pereception. National Congress Party must understand that CPA was not donation to their members or National Islam Fundamentalist. therefore, NCP needs other an ingenuity for better; otherwise, SPLM and SPLA are again an ingenuity in order to confront all these terrorists who have never stopped a human’s slaughter in the name of Allah. I think it is very naived to fool people in the name of God. I feel that it is one the biggest mistake in history. For whoever sets up such example. it is a bad example, and Scholorists of Islam needs to reverse their ingenuity .I think it is a nonsense, and let count days and see what is going to happen tomorrow. I think it is too early to call in those behaviours and rhetoric.
