Sudan keen to boost economic ties with Saudi Arabia

KHARTOUM, March 25, 2004 (Sudan Tribune) — The Sudanese president , Omar al-Beshir, has stressed Sudan’s keenness to strengthen ties with Saudi Arabia and back joint cooperation in the fields of economy and trade.

He made the remarks at the Republican Palace yesterday when he met the visiting Saudi trade and industry minister, Dr Hashim Bin-Abdallah Yamani. He underlined the need for establishing a joint ministerial committee in Khartoum and implement what had been agreed upon in the memorandum of understanding, bilateral agreements and executive programmes.

Al-Beshir said Sudan was preparing for a peace agreement which would contribute towards exchanging trade and investment. He said that the Saudi businessmen would be granted full support and aid from concerned Sudanese parties.

He pointed out the need to start joint projects and invest in the fields of agriculture and animal husbandry.

The meetings of the joint Sudanese-Saudi ministerial committee concluded by signing the conclusive communique. Minister of Foreign Trade Abd-al-Hamid Musa Kasha signed for the government of Sudan, while the Saudi minister of trade and industry represented his government.

The two parties agreed to increase commercial exchange besides the exchange of expertise, purchase and studies to achieve mutual cooperation.

The two ministers addressing the session stressed the need to strengthen joint cooperation to boost the distinguished ties.
