High-level southern Sudan delegation arrives in Nairobi
NAIROBI, March 25, 2004 (SUNA) — A high-level delegation of Equatoria citizens, led by Minister of Labour and Administrative Reform Major General Alison Manani Magaya, arrived in Nairobi yesterday.
Magaya said in a statement that the visit, which includes Kenya and Uganda, comes in the framework of arrangements for the peace stage.
Magaya pointed out that they are discussing implementation of the agreement and this requires dialogue with all political forces including Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM) for unification of vision and solidarity to boost the peace and development process.
He added that the stage of peace necessitates strong relations with the neighbouring countries, specially those bordering Equatoria.
The peace stage also requires coordination and cooperation with the countries that support the Sudanese peace process including US, Italy, Norway and Britain, Magaya said, pointing out that the delegation would meet the envoys of these countries in Kenya and Uganda to urge them to retain their support to Sudan.
The delegation met separately Wednesday the ambassadors of Italy and Britain.
The delegation will leave on Friday to Naivasha (Kenya, venue of peace talks) to meet First Vice-President Ali Osman Mohamed Taha and SPLM Chairman Dr John Garang.
The delegation will leave for Uganda following the conclusion of its visit to Kenya for a similar mission.
