Sudan agrees to cooperate with UN Human Rights Commission
KHARTOUM, March 27, 2004 (SUNA) — President of the Republic Gen Umar al-Bashir has got acquainted with the outcome of the meetings of the 60th session of UN Human Rights Commission, measures and contacts made in Geneva, and the method of work during the current stage.
Minister of Justice and chairman of Sudan’s delegation to the meetings of 60th session of the Human Rights Commission in Geneva, Ali Muhammad Uthman Yasin said in a statement to Suna after he was received by the president of the republic at the Guest House Saturday 27 March that it was agreed that the method of work is represented in that Sudan agrees on cooperation with the UN and the Human Rights Commission concerning the technical and consultancy assistance, but without issuing of a resolution under article (19), taking into consideration that Sudan has concluded an agreement with the UN high commissioner for human rights to extend technical services to Sudan, saying that this envoy has been in Sudan for three years.
He added that the meeting discussed the draft resolution and it has been agreed that there is nothing to justify it.
Meanwhile, Yasin briefed the president of the republic on the progress of work at the Ministry of Justice.
