Sudanese government, SPLM set up committees to discuss disputed issues
NAIVASHA, March 30, 2004 (Sudan Tribune) — The Sudanese government and the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM) yesterday set up two committees whose work will start tomorrow. The committees will be tasked with discussing the conflicting issues.
According to the pro governmental Sudanese Media Centre, there has been a suggestion in Naivasha to extend the talks for one more week.
The talks were expected to end on Wednesday 31 March.
Meanwhile, the first vice-president, Ali Osman Mohamed Taha, and SPLM leader Dr John Garang yesterday continued their meetings to resolve the pending issues.
Taha held a long meeting with the US charge d’affaires, Jeff Millington, to discuss obstacles hindering the peace talks.
According to sources close to the talks, Taha told Millington the government was ready to continue the talks in order to reach a final peace agreement.
