Jonglei graduates 463 police, calls for lawfulness

By Philip Thon Aleu

March 23, 2009 (BOR TOWN) — 463 police officers including 70 women graduated here on Saturday March 21 after thirteen months of intensive training. Jonglei Governor used the ceremony to warn communities against unlawfulness and call for constitutional governance “to protect the peace we made.”

Bor_Police.jpgLt. Gen. Governor Kuol Manyang Juuk said the South Sudan’s ruling party, Sudan People’s Liberation Movement, fought Khartoum government for two decades to end what he described as “old fashion.”

“Tribalism must end. This is an old fashion,” he said adding that, as police officers, who wear the same uniform, speak one language and does the same work, it would not be important to indulge this sign of modernity.

Mr. Manyang Juuk remarks come as tribal fighting between Murle and Lou-Nuer fades. Hundreds of lives have been lost, children abducted, villages burnt and thousands of cattle looted following a fierce retaliatory contest in Pibor County territory. Commenting on the fight, Mr. Manyang encouraged tribal leaders to switch to love for peace and reframe from unnecessary killings.

“Nobody is coward, but the love for peace restrains others from raiding. This is what everyone must do to protect the peace we made,” he noted adding that “we shall not tolerate any unlawfulness” in reference to cattle counter-raiding and child abduction dominantly by few tribal criminals. The Governor repeated his call for disarmament. He argued illegal arms owners in Bor town to report to army headquarters in Panpandiar.

According to Jonglei plan, the police graduates will be deployed in counties headquarters to maintain orders there. Deputy Gov. Hussien Mar Nyuot warned the police against unlawful actions that could defame their code of ethic. “We don’t want a lousy police,” he warned. Mr. Nyuot, however, expressed concern about the poor states of roads which would slow down transfer to distance locations and challenges police movement in case of an immergence need.

However, ASCOM Co. engineers are working on Ayod – Wat – Akobo roads since January, 2009. The State says such development should be given room. At capital Bor Town, electricians and water drillers are busy erecting electric poles and water systems respectively. In the next weeks, “no woman will be seen carrying water on her head,” Gov. Kuol said adding development going on drastically though people are complaining “nothing can be achieved within a day.”

Present are the ceremony where music jazz entertain the graduates were Police Commissioner Riak Akon, State Ministers and thousands of town residents.

Every year Jonglei recruit the massive number of police but what is their work if they can not protect the civilians from murle and Lou Nuer criminals.
This is time to be tough on the law bypassers since security was the main aim for fighting Jallaba.
Mr Governor Kuol must order the disarmament of Lou Nuer with their counterpart murle.
These communities do not know how to look after their own lives rather than just raiding and stealing cattles.

mr Governor use the police to enforce law in these lawless communities of Lou and murle.
Army and the police do the same thing which to enforce law in the society. Since the Goss do not use the army for such purposes it is the duty of the police to restore calm.

It is so sad to be always hearing murle and Lou NUER abducting children and stole cattle.
That act must stop immediately because this is a time to enjoy peace without such criminals causing chaoes.
I think you mr governor has not forgotten the massacre committed by LouNuer in Bor.
That must not be allowed to happen again by these thoughtless creatures who armed by Jallaba.
As a result the Lou Nuer must be disarmed as soon as possible. Someone rightly put it precise that ” AN ARMED NUER IS LIKE AN ARMED CHILD” and they may utilize those weapon to cause chaoes in the state.
If the Lou Nuer and murle are not disarmed then the Bor use must be allowed to arm themselves for self-defend.

Lastly thank mr Governor for your great effort to restore law and order in the Jonglei state. God will help you.

    Dear Mr. Kim Deng.
Your respond is highly appreciated by Almighty Naath. For you Mimam & Likes you do not know what you are alway talking about. you are not even from Dinka community. Then, if you are from Dinka community.

Ask yourselve first before you talk about fighting with Nuers. In 1991, Nuers defeated you from your homes all the way to Uganda and Kenya. Many children and women lost their lives, which I was so disappointed when I heard That incident, accept you because you are coward, who can not even fight like a man.

Do you want the same thing to happen again to your community Mr. bastard coward boy? Which I do n’t think you are.

I think what you need to talk about here in this internet, should be about peace with Lou Nuers or Nuers. Otherwise, Nuers will wipt you out from your home again, and you will never come back if you some of you will survive.
    Thank you all.

Dear Mimam and huge, plus those who follow their world view.

Generalization doesn’t work in post modernism era. Nuer occupies a largest part of South Sudan namely Upper Nile, Jonglei, and Unity State. For my analysis I would urge you my beloved people to specific word when you are insulting your follow men if you feel it can help heartburn.
All in all work for unity of country stop bite biting, look a head of you and around you because you are the future leaders of tomorrow.
    God bless South Sudan
