Uganda, Sudan discuss ICC decision against Bashir

March 29, 2009 (KHARTOUM) — Sudanese and Ugandan officials today discussed the arrest warrant issued by the International Criminal Court (ICC) against president Omer Hassan Al-Bashir.

Sudan official news agency (SUNA) reported that Undersecretary of foreign affairs Al-Samani Al-Wasila met with the Ugandan Foreign minister Sam Kutesa and discussed bilateral relations.

SUNA said that Kutesa carried a latter from Ugandan president Yoweri Musievini that related to Kampala’s position supporting Sudan’s stance on the ICC.

Both sides also discussed preparations for the joint Ugandan-Sudanese committee to be held in the second half of the year.

Al-Wasila said that his country is counting on Uganda’s support as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council (UNSC) for this year.

This month Uganda president said that UNSC cannot be convinced to suspend Bashir’s indictment unless progress is made in the North-South Peace Agreement and the Darfur Peace agreement (DPA).
