Ethiopia: Ministry graduates trained force for peace mission to Darfur, Liberia

April 2, 2009(ADDIS ABABA) — The Ethiopian Ministry of defense on Thursday said that it has graduated troops who took pre-deployment military training for peace keeping mission in Sudan’s Darfur and Liberia.
Speaking at the occasion peacekeeping center head within the ministry Major General Yohannes Gebremeskel said that the now graduated members of the peace force are expected to exert maximum effort to enhance Ethiopia’s contribution in the realization of sustainable peace in Africa.
He called on the trainees to promote Ethiopia’s image by playing tremendous role by maintaining peace and security at where they are deployed.
Military training center head, Colonel Tikuea Gebremeskel to his part said that trainees have received adequate theoretical and practical military trainings that enables them to effectively carryout their responsibility upon deployment.
The training they received is said to help them to successfully discharge their principal duties which include conducting security patrols within area of responsibility, to enhance security, encourage confidence within the local people and conduct escorts for humanitarian convoys.
Ethiopia has continuously been taking part its share in an international peacekeeping mission. Ethiopia’s contribution in peace keeping mission in countries like Rwanda, Congo, Liberia, and Burundi and now in Sudan has approved the attention the country has given in assuring peace and security in Africa
Currently Ethiopia has over 850 peace keeping forces deployed in the troubled Darfur region of Sudan
