Sudan wants France to stop Chadian support to Darfur rebels

April 13, 2009 (KHARTOUM) – Amid reports about growing tension between the two countries, Sudan has urged the French government to put pressure on Chad to end military escalation on the joint border and to stop its support to Darfur rebels.

The Sudanese demand comes as a Sudanese delegation comprising Presidential Assistant Nafi Ali Nafi and Salah Gosh the head of intelligence and security services is expected in Paris to hold talks with French officials on Chad.

Ali Al-Sadiq, the spokesperson of foreign ministry on Sunday asked France to make good use of its close ties with Chad to persuade Ndjamena to put an end to its interference in the Sudanese internal affairs. He further added Chad should prevent the use of its territory for hostile action against Sudan.

Sadiq said France has to stop Chad from supporting JEM rebels.

After some months of relative calm, Sudan and Chad resumed mutual accusations of supporting rebel groups from both sides. Khartoum says rebels from the Justice and Equality Movement (JEM) are preparing attacks while Ndjamena accuses Sudan of mobilizing Chadian rebels to attack its territory.

The Chadian presidential website began again publication of papers speaking about “Sudanese aggression” or “Sudanese mercenaries” in reference to the Chadian rebels. Also President Idris Deby visited last week troops deployed around the capital with tanks and heavy weapons.

Sudan also accuses Chad of troops buildup near the border jointly with the mobilization of JEM troops.

Meanwhile, Kamal Obeid, the state minister for information said the visiting delegation would not discuss the International Criminal Court (ICC)’s arrest warrant against President Al-Bashir with the French officials. He further said that talks with include Chad and efforts to reach peace in Darfur.

Khartoum, according to Sadiq and Obeid, wants Paris to convince a rebel leader to join the peace process.

Abdel-Wahid Al-Nur who is the leader of the rebel Sudan Liberation Movement (SLM) mainstream group, is exiled in France since two years. Al-Nur refuses to take part in any peace process with Khartoum unless the militias are disarmed and the displaced return to their homeland.

The official foreign ministry spokesperson said France has to force Al-Nur to engage talks with the government, adding that President Nicolas Sarkozy had promised his Sudanese counterpart Omer Al-Bashir to bring Al-Nur to the negotiating table.

Sudan wants France to stop Chadian support to Darfur rebels
These are the facts in the region of western Sudan which is Darfur province; Consistent source, the government of Sudan in the recent days having heavily preparing to the Chadian rebels to attack the government of DEBY; the rebels are located in their territory specifically beside city of Elginena which is approximately 20 Kilometers from the Chadian border in western Darfur province; and Chadian government is doing equally same, backing up to JEM Sudanese rebels widely spread in North Darfur province. These accusations are meaning less, very soon will be the war break up again at the border between Chad and Sudan. The government of Sudan has been in power almost a quarter century, but doesn’t understand fully nature of the tribes in Darfur, sooner or later the government of Sudan will be the loser, because all the solutions in his hands, but they don’t want it a peace; peace to them (government of Sudan) means NEW SUDAN, and they rejecting the idea of African Hero Dr. John Garang De Mobior. The war is not faced yet to the Sudanese government, the way they acting will be soon. Consistent source, and I called them “TWO AND TWO DEFFENCE” who are they? as government of Sudan call them, Mini Arkou Military (some of his rebels was joined government in Abuja peace agreement, some of Sudanese Military, and some of Janjawid), Timan Erdemy Military (Chadian rebels located beside Elginena), Dr. Khalil Ibrahim Military (JEM rebels widely spread in Drfur and Kordofan provinces), and Idriss Deby (Chadian government). Finally, peace in the hands of the government of Suan, Make it berfor face it.
