Sudan SPLM officials accuse peers of seeking to undermine them

April 22, 2009 (KHARTOUM) — A number of officials from Sudan People Liberation Movement (SPLM) launched an unprecedented attack on some of their colleagues saying their aim to split the southern ex-rebel group.

Sudan’s former foreign minister Lam Akol, Sudanese parliamentarian Ghazi Suleiman and Manawa Aligo held a press conference at a forum hosted by Sudan official news agency (SUNA) today.

Last month the SPLM spokesperson, Yen Matthew issued a statement declaring that Akol and Suleiman no longer represent the views of the movement and that their membership will be reconsidered in the upcoming meeting of the political bureau and national liberation council.

Today Akol said that he as been monitoring a small group within the SPLM over the four years that is using splinter ex-communists and former National Congress Party (NCP) members who are seeking to divide the SPLM to groups of “Garang [Former SPLM chairman] children and Kiir [current SPLM chairman] children”.

“We will not remain silent in the face of the opposing group and will use the same tactics of utilizing the press contrary to organizational rules which stipulate that any disagreements must be confined to party’s meetings” Akol said.

The former foreign minister also described the security situation in the South as deteriorating as well as economic one “due to money mismanagement”.

Aligo also speaking at the forum said that the head of SPLM minority leader in the national assembly Yasir Arman and Yen Matthew are behind the media campaign against them and stressed that the policy of suspension “is foreign” to the SPLM ideology.

He said that they called for the press conference today in order to respond to “offending statements” published in the newspapers against them. Furthermore Aligo rejected criticisms over participation in the Kenana forum of Southern leaders that took place earlier this month.

The Kenana forum slammed the SPLM “for governance failures over the last four years” and discussed “the continuously deteriorating administrative, security and political situation in Southern Sudan, since the South gained its overwhelming self-government, under the Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA), of 9 January, 2005”.

Sudanese parliamentarian Ghazi Suleiman rapped Arman saying he has done a poor job in managing the SPLM North sector and suggested that its budget has been mismanaged.

Suleiman also said that some circles within the SPLM are seeking to sunset democracy and create internal divisions. He dismissed the idea of a broad national coalition government as demanded by some Northern opposition parties.

All three figures defended their position against the arrest warrant issued by the International Criminal Court (ICC) for Sudanese president Omer Hassan Al-Bashir and demonstrations by Southerners in his support.

The SPLM has instructed its members not to take part in any demonstrations for or against the ICC.

But Aligo said that Kiir only ordered SPLM members to avoid confrontational demonstrations only that may lead to bloodshed.

The SPLM has taken a conservative approach to the issue of the ICC arrest warrant calling on the ruling NCP to cooperate with the court while warning of repercussions on the North-South peace agreement.

To me it is good to split than watching it heading into the jungle of dinkas under visionless and premature community of lost junglese. Who will appreciate Kiir’s leadership at the moment? Coward leader not in his position in Khartoum just hiding in South (JUBA). What a shame on this Goss or ghost of dinkas in South. SPLA/M is for dinkas, this is why they keep looting $$$ but leaving rubbish to flow around JUBA city and everywhere in South. Dinkas don’t know what is development, they behave like they have been taught how to eat and loot $$. Yes it is true that they have learnt a bad spirit of arabs during their enslaved. Where is the development in South since 2005 if we intend to deny the facts that dinkas are food and money lovers. BIG SHAME on junglese Ghost and his criminal community members in south and JUBA streets in particular. Go for yourself Lam and you will be the right man to lead, forget about the food and money lover junglese born.

    Dear all,

Logic is straight forward with his agenda whether he is positive or negative. He never get lost like you people. His opinion is his opinion. why are you always panic about his articles. You better make your comment about the main issues in first place and don’t get yourself busy with logic articles, otherwise you will run mad.Our people always get lost when they meet different issue on their way to main issues, and that is why we fail to solve our problems. Again leave logic alone and mind your own business. Logic is not being delegated to speak on behave of Equatorians. Since the silence of H.E. Salva Kiir means his approval of humiliation of the most intelligent cadres of the SPLM by political novices and dull opportunists, it is now the right time for these cadres to come out and take their rights with their own public might. Well done and congratulations to Hon. Dr. Lam Akol, Hon. Ghazi Suleiman and Hon. Manawa Aligo for taking the courage to challenge the serial vices and leadership crisis in the SPLM. The dignity and popularity of the SPLM should not be allowed to be thrown to the dogs by the incompetent and corrupt Secretariat. The truth must be told before it is too late to rescue the SPLM from collapse in the face of Southerners. Long live the truth and down down to the concocted lies.

Peace be to all, even thought there is no peace
I finally decided its time for me to get involved after spending enough time following the news of my beloved.
so much things to say, but. I’m surpraised that My people still don’t LOVE each other, I’m not talking about jalaba, that’s why the illness became chronic, and will bring desaster sooner or later. Democracy means diversity, and tolerance to others, opinons, and where the rule of law aplies, and the people rule themselves in thier leadership in simple terms. what we have in sudan North, or South (since these are the only two claiming the land for themselves)is Unclassified. But generally It’s a GANG WAR type of thing going on where power, and intimidation is the way to rule (misrule)and the sudanese masses refused to aknowledge that there is a better way, so we let the thugs shed the children’s blood since the 1400s. Let the sudanese people know, if we ever going to be a Nation. NEW LEADERSHIP we NEED to stop the bloodshed not only in the South, Darfur, or the Nuba, but allover SUDAN the people can not take it no more, furthermore, our poverty, and lack of education, etc, is simply nothing, but a faliure in leadership, so on so furth.

When things go right in Southern Sudan, some elements divert them by sabotaging the spearbearers and when they go wrong, they are the first to laments, criticise and conspire against the leadership. What’s happening now is the repetition of 1991, split of the SPLM/A, again being championed by the same heartless, selfish, opportunist and powerlust, the so called ‘Dr. Of Division Lam Akol’-DODLA and the few unknown self imposed SPLM members.
Mr. DODLA has a history of getting sick after power.I’s said that Since his school days, if he was not given a position of distributing food as a headboy, there could be no stability in the boarding school dormitaries.
He sees himself as a smartest Southern Sudanese, even among Shilluk tribe. He was the one who instigated the events of 1991, which has cost us immensely. He just wants to be a leader of Southerners, the people whom he betrayed and the more curios he thinks about this, the more he he keeps talking and plotting against the SPLM.
The controversial Kenana Summit was not SPLM initiative, so how was it possible for Lam Akol to attend without being delegated by his party. If there was an invitation to SPLM, he was not the right person to represent it. This move by Lam shows his lack of respect for the party and its leadership. Lam has a bad record and he deserves to be expelled from our party so that we can fully know he is an extenal enemy. He is the scum Southerners have ever known in their contemporary history and I believe SPLM and Southerners would be well off without him. Any open party is like a theatre and this is what he wants SPLM to be.
He is now accusing the people who have discovered his machinations to destroy SPLM and of trying to divide it along tribal lines. It is said that, catch the thief, but guide yourself. He is the culprit and he wants to blackmail and implicate others. Yes, in politics you can tell lies and when you tell the truth, you are regarded as foolish and traitor. This is what Lam is saying of those who have exposed him. Brother Yien Mathew had been a greatest defender of SPLM/A and Southerners in Khartoum at those darkest times during the war in the south. He had been imprisoned hundred times by the Arabs even at the time when Lam was in honeymoon with the NCP. Camrade Yien Mathew has never been a communist and if he had, then Lam was a facist. Camrade Yien is a spokesperson and is not in a position to issue statements like that without coming from the party’s entire leadership. Camrade Yien has a clean record that is no match to DODLA’s.
This time, Lam has shot his foot and better forgets dreaming of being a star one day in South Sudan.

Whatever happens in government activities can be suspicious and if that case is in the south, then the real makers are the sellouts self styled southern learders in alliance with our common enemy who are using their agents and media access afforded to them by the NCP to undermine SPLM/A and destroy GoSS inorder to hinder the achievements that are being made and then tell the Southern public that SPLM is not doing anything to them. They talk of fours wasted by the SPLM, which is a sheer lie, but miserably fail to talk about fifty years of Arabs mismanagements.
Southerners should understand that Northerners will never allow us to develop and progress. The history tells us that at the end of Nyanya war which culminated to the formation of Southern government of that time, democracy was vibrant in the south unlike the north. We read about elections held in the south at all levels in those years. So, Nimeiri was jealous and he devised to destroy that political direction by dividing the south. Southerners and their leaders were turned against one another. That same scenario is underway today which has shown its tongue in behaviours of Lam and his colleagues in allaince with the NCP and its beginning has recently proved in Kenana and we have seen the harsh criticism directed against SPLM and GoSS.
Southerners should not allow Lam to rob them this time by all mains. He must be neutralised and even exiled.

There is no doubt that Akol has been working to undermine the splm since he was discharged from his post and the evidence can be seen through his multiples interviews he had conducted criticizing his own party while praising NCP. Destabilize your own party should be a one way tick out of the party. If Akol is not satisfy with SPLM policies and handling of the current issues as a ruling party then he should defected as he use to do, otherwise he should shot up. SPLM, as a party has a rules and regulations that should be respected by its members. If Akol and Suleiman are not abide by the party regulations then they should be sack from the part period.

In my point of view it’s would be big mistakes for those southern who working in the governments of unity to pushing each other’s.

There are betters to respecting ones another’s, because, if they’re giving room to dividing ourselves not helping at all to us.

We should not accuse any one who an over owns political supports to southern Sudanese people or interesting to volunteering.

Also for those who accuse President Salva Kiir to be Coward person, what you want him to do? We should critics him just to correcting his GOSS to be actives government and united people of South Sudan.

    Thank you all.
