Rumbek county official escapes ambush by cattle raiders

By Manyang Mayom

May 2, 2009 (RUMBEK) — The commissioner of Rumbek Central County, Abraham Makoi Bol Kodi, fell into an ambush by pastoralists on Saturday at Cueicok village within Amongping payam, at a distance of four miles from the Lakes state governors’ headquarters.

Commissioner Makoi described the ambush as “really shocking,” whereas Governor Daniel Awet has made no comment on the shooting.

The commisioner said he had heard rumour of a potential revenge attack between the Papmany clan and Panguetkur clan, which both belong to the Panyon tribe of Rumbek Central County, and so moved into the zone of conflict with police forces to separate the two hostile clans.

“Actuality the two clans declined our presence there and immediately they opened gunfire direct to my car, but none of us got injured nor killed,” he said. “I thank God… this is a surprise because recently we had reconciled those clans of Lakes who had local disagreement until we confirmed they are together.”

Despite the attack, the situation in Cueicok village is under control because both two clans managed not to fight each another, said Makoi, who promised to remain at Cueicok villages until confirming that the situation is completely back to normal.

Last week students in the same area, Amongping payam, fled rural schools due to parents’ lack of confidence in the safetey of the area. Enrollment numbers at the start of the new school year were reported to be down.

This is the first time any Lakes state constitutional post holder has come face to face with cattle raiders in an ambush targeting his car. But on April 25 at Aber, two people in a government car were fired on by robbers, destroying the engine completely. Both people escaped death.

According to an unnamed security source recommending that Lakes state administration be replaced with a military government for a period of one month while carrying out a mass disarmament
campaign across Lakes state, cattle raiders are now very untamed.

He suggested that AK-47 guns could be collected from pastoralists and stored in containers as witnessed by a civilian.

Lakes State, whose capital is Rumbek, has been hit by inter-clan and intertribal conflict, including inter-state clashes between Warap and Lakes, particularly the two counties Cueibet and Rumbek North (Maper).

The fighting in Lakes is worse since the Comprehensive Peace Agreement was signed in 2005 bringing to a halt the civil war between the now ex-rebel SPLM/A and the Khartoum-based government.

That is the way of junglese, instead of giving the Equatorians those guns for shooting with LRA, but for them as mad and lost community they keep pointing guns at themselves just like blinds. This tribe of dinkas and junglese will never recover from their wildness. If you are attacking your leaders how can you build the society that every community desires in this World. Just want to live like monkeys, aggressive to one anothers. SHAME DINKAS YOU ARE CREATED BY mistake. The solution to you is easy and simple according to my Logic. Once you fight each other then there should be aid such as food for you, then in that type of food whether maize flour or beans some chemical (poison) should be applied to every sack just to see you dying like chiciken affected by bird flu. Some will be drop into your sources of water at night, all cattle and people will get the chance to drink. This is to get rid of fake tribe out of South Sudan. One because you love food, secondly because you are mad and valuless and thirdly because we desire a better place without mad and killers like yourselves. It is easy just wait as soon as I become a head of WFP in South, you will see the consquences. Even thought there is nothing wrong, It can just be created that because you have affected by drought so it is good that you need to recieve some food .

Thank you for the Laws’ you formed last month ago but people don’t like those laws’ those law are really help.

Governor; I want to ask you. Why is University of Rumbek Capital State is still not build? Those people of North Sudan and South Sudan are not coming to build if you don’t with them everyday it, but they don’t agree with you than you have to build it with your State Communities. I’m telling you Lake State will be a last list for everything if you do wait of North Sudan and South to come to do the things in State.

I wish you should come to Kansas City, Missouri for meeting and we talk about that.
