Fifteen confirmed dead in horrific bus crash on road to Kampala
By Isaac Vuni
May 13, 2009 (JUBA) — Fifteen passengers travelling from Juba to Kampala died yesterday at Aru junction about 60 miles from Juba after a bus overturned in Southern Sudan, confirmed today Lt. Col. Langor Peter Lam, deputy director of traffic police.
The vehicle was carrying traders from the Southern Sudanese capital Juba back to Uganda on Tuesday when it overturned near the village of Kit II.
Uganda’s Central Broadcasting Service reported that as many as 45 people may have died and German Press Agency cited a Ugandan police spokeswoman, Judith Nabakooba, as saying Wednesday at least 20 Ugandan traders have died.
The majority of dead and wounded were taken either to Nimule or Uganda. According to five survivors brought to Juba teaching hospital on Tuesday, the bus driver was driving too fast with over 100 passengers on board.
Some passengers were left bleeding for a while because there no immediate rescue team. The medical authority of Juba Teaching Hospital was informed by phone at about 11:00 am Sudan local time but they had neither an ambulance nor vehicles to ferry a medical rescue team to the scene of the accident, despite having doctors and nurses on standby.
Nevertheless, at 2:36 pm police decided to travel to the scene to collect the wounded and the dead to Juba.
At least five injured people were brought by their relatives and friends to Juba Teaching Hospital on Tuesday, some injured were taken to Nimule, others decided to proceed to Uganda, while some injured were still trapped in the greatly damaged bus and the dead left laying on the ground.
A survivor said that before the accident the bus driver had already knocked a Dinka women at a school of the blind, about nine miles from Juba, but passengers forced him to continue driving hence contributing to the accident. However he praised Sudanese police for prompt action in clearing the necessary documents for their treatment in Juba hospital.
Nevertheless, Lt. Col. Peter Lam praised the Southern Sudan Doctors Association (SOSDA) including their nurses for their prompt action in handling victims of the accident. At the time of writing, they are still on standby to receive any injured person.
The official further said that according to Sudan traffic regulations, the Grace Coach bus company would be required to compensate the dead since their driver was speeding and also died in the same accident.

that is very miserable in deed why are ugandan bus drivers act with a sense of inhumanity in southern sudan as if there is no law in the south?. this is because southern sudan official do abuse their system by putting more in their pocket rather than care for their people. why did state government or Juba government not even buy some basic medical emergencies like ambulance.
why did bus driver act in that way as he first knock down a Dinka woman and proceed without even stop to see whether she is dead or injured and render some assistants to the woman?. if the police could have stop him he would have not committed that further crime. that is a very big lost to southern sudan government and their families who lost love one.
thanks

Who can we blame on this lost of lives. To me, just one single man and his fake tribe. Goss and his junglese love to eat $$$ while leaving the roads in poor conditions, even if the driver was drunk, I personal think that he could be able to manage his driving skill . This lost mad mad Goss of dinkas will never make any sense only leading our nation to grave. Their culture of killing people has made them to see any single thing as something simple. Sorrow dinkas, If any of Goss leaders like Riek, Igga and Pagan are leaving this dude of dinkas who call himself Kiir is continue his visionless leadership then there is no chance that we will win 2011. To myself, Kiir down and someone else to try. SICK OF dinkas/junglese arrogance.

Lord Jesus Christ,
May you please rest the souls of those who died in an accident and put them in your right hand of your father?. I don’t know exactly what is going on in Southern Sudan by the way. In every single day, everyone heard different story especially about the people of Southern Sudan. What kind of mess is this actually?
I think maybe one of an Equatorian guy was the one driving.

Sad news indeed, my God rest the victims soul in internal peace,
why should we blame our selv for an accident. I blame the bus driver who knock a dinka woman at first then overspeed for his sefty then lead to the death of many passanger. If the driver is still alife then lets him pay a heavy pride.
Its not fair to act like that. He must respect pedestrians.
