Sudanese army denies air strikes in Darfur
May 14, 2009 (KHARTOUM) — The Sudanese army has denied carrying out air strikes against the rebel Justice and Equality in western Sudan region of Darfur.
“Our troops have not done any military operations in this area also it did not carry out any bombing against Darfur localities where the rebels have presence,” Brigadier Osman Mohamed Al-Aghbash, the spokesperson of Sudan Armed Forces said in a statement released in Khartoum Thursday.
The bombing followed fighting near Um Baru between the Justice and Equality Movement with SLM- Minnawi troops in the location last week. JEM rebels claimed victory over the troops loyal to the Senior Presidential Assistant.
Aerial attacks are banned in Darfur by a U.N. Security Council resolution but the government relies on such bombardments during major military operations, such as weeks-long standoff beginning in January when JEM seized the town of Muhageria in South Darfur.

It is only to be expected that the army spokesman would deny bombing in Darfur even there is credible evidence of independent witnesses. This is what the government of Sudan does. The President leads the denials that there were mass killings and systematic raping in Darfur.
The court will decide.
