Five dead in gun violence between solders, youth in Pibor

May 22, 2009 (LONDON) – Pibor town in Jonglei state is under tension again after limited clashes occurred Tuesday involving SPLA soldiers, leaving at least five dead.

The population of Pibor town has fled the area, stated Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF), which has been forced to temporarily evacuate its team from the town’s hospital.

According to the SPLM Patriotic organization, a reformist body based in the United Kingdom, an SPLA soldier who hailed from the Dinka tribe was killed while trying to loot fish from local villagers, sparking further violence. Citing sources in Juba and Pibor, the organization said that the Murle were suspected due to the circumstances of the killing, which took place about 10 kilometers from Pibor town.

The killing reportedly occurred when a few SPLA soldiers sneaked out of their barracks ostensibly to go fishing. But instead of doing the actual fishing the soldiers decided to steal fish from the local fishermen. The local people responded by racing to the aid of their fishermen and attacking the SPLA soldiers.

A gun battle ensued between the SPLA and local youth which resulted in fatalities of one SPLA soldier dead and one civilian from the Murle dead also. The SPLA soldiers then fled the scene to run back to their barracks.

Likewise, Reuters news agency reported Deputy Governor of Jonglei state Hussein Mar Nyuot as saying the fighting erupted after a member of the Murle ethnic group shot and wounded an armed soldier in Pibor in the Jonglei state.

“When the SPLA soldiers arrived back at their barracks they are reported to have told some lies to their superiors that Murle people attacked them killing one and they also shot back and killed some Murle and now the Murle are coming to the barracks to revenge the killing of their comrades,” said Charles Kisanga, chairman of the SPLM Patriotic Organisation.

“Their commander quickly ordered the soldiers to go to attack the Murle people in the town and hence the soldiers went to the town and started shooing indiscriminately which resulted in the fatalities of three more people: an administrator who tried to intervene and 2 more Murle civilians,” he added.

Similarly, Nyuot said that five Murle died.

Kisanga credited a senior SPLA commander with ordering the forces to pull back to their garrison; otherwise heavy fighting could have ensued.

On the next morning after the clashes, Wednesday, the Murle civilian population backed by their youth fighters went and surrounded the SPLA barracks and demanded to know why the soldiers went on a rampage in the town the other day and tried to kill many people.

Today the SPLA barrack is still reported to be surrounded by young fighters who are waiting the reply as to why the SPLA opened fire in the town against civilians in the broad daylight.

During a fact-finding trip to the town by a top government delegation that included Jonglei Governor Kuol Manyang and his Deputy Hussein Mar Nyuot, the officials are said to have refused to address the masses in Pibor.

According to a source in Juba, some senior Murle officials were preparing to fly to Pibor today under the protection of UNMIS peacekeepers in order to try to defuse the tension and reduce the threat of renewed fighting in Pibor.

Look at this mad and lost tribe of dinkas, how can a cammander in chief order his soldiers to attack innocent civilains from Murle. I don’t see any intelligence from you mad junglese, only eating anf stealing is your only way of lving life. The murle unrest you because of your madness and you turn to make revenge to the Western Equatorians in the name of LRA. Whether 2011 is unity or seperation, sincerely there is no regional, tribal or state unity in South. To me, I see Greater Equatoria now as a self independent country of unity and peace without any rubbish of dinkas or dirties.

Here in Egypt there is no single Matha. In Kenya, there is no single Matha. In Uganda, there is no Matha. And non of mathas have gone to Europe, America, Cananda, and Australia. Now, where you at fucken Matha? Are you writing in Nairus, Kapoeta, or Magos. Where you at fool? Shut up wherever you are.

You’re the most traitors in southern Sudan who followed Jalaba for nothing but sex. That’s why so many Matha are light-skin bastards. You’ll be the less vultures in southern Sudan to say anything in the government. Ugly matha!!!!!!!!!!!

    To dumb Jongkoth

Listen, if two Dinka men climbed the tallest satelite pole in Juba last year to commit suicide because he was not given the food he has never even seen, how do you think that the same Dinka can not robbed, cry or ready to die for the fish he has seen on Murle women hand?

    Answer me Jonkoth!!!

I know the report you want should be bending, vague, absurd and Dinkanic style report that should very much be written and sent by well known tribalists like Philip Thon Aleiu or Kuol Manyang to suite your barbaric ideology.

But the report is completely fair, accurate and balance to the end. Those who tried to dispute this report are those little-minded Dinka Bor boys with tiny knowledge about the unity of the country and the frairness that a nation need in order to bring togetherness among the people.

I know there are few good Dinkas who went to good school, got pure education and learnt about genuine peace and how to bring it to the country, but these good Dinka guys are barred away by the greedy primitive and self-imposed leaders who don’t even know how to bring unity.

Most of those who are participating both on the web and on the ground are those poor Bor boys who were chased by Nuer in 1991, they didn’t go to good schools to learn about country, people, unity, peace, and sharing. They don’t even know what does national resources mean and how can it be handled.

Anyway, you poor boys, you are still billions of miles away to know what country mean. Therefore, you need to see good examples of unity and fairness from Equatorians, Murle, and other tribes because you are just bunch of dumb greedy hyenas.

    God bless

The writer can not be decieved by Jongkoth.
