UN representative warns of insecurity in Jonglei, Upper Nile

May 31, 2009 (KHARTOUM) – Jonglei and Upper Nile states are insecure and thus offer major cause for concern, said the UN Secretary-General’s Special Representative, Ashraf Qazi, during a visit to the two states.

Cattle raids among tribes in the southern Sudan have reportedly left over 1,000 dead this year, though Qazi said today the figure was “hundreds.” The UN Mission in Sudan (UNMIS) had weeks ago deployed 120 civilian and military personnel to affected counties of Akobo and Pibor to help stabilize the situation.

Other motives for the fighting are political and retaliatory, with women and children bearing the brunt of some murderous attacks. The violence includes fighting between the Lou Nuer and Murle groups. Some peace efforts in the state led to easing of violence.

According to a statement from UNMIS, Qazi met recently with political and military leadership in Malakal, Bor and Pibor to discuss the recent fighting in the area as well as issues pertaining to the implementation of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA).

“Both Jonglei and Upper Nile States Governors acknowledged the major role that UNMIS played in calming down the tension between the rival tribes by establishing two temporary operating bases in Akobo and Pibor,” said the statement in reference to the deployment of UN personnel in Akobo and Pibor counties.

Qazi also highlighted the importance of enabling the state authorities to draw and implement their own stabilisation plan.

The UN official urged the international community, the regional and the local actors to address the situation as an utmost priority. “A secure environment is extremely important for the conduct of elections and the referendum. The successful implementation of the CPA must be peaceful,” he added.

    Busta.

What is all that unnecessary vulgar language for? Look, we should not adapt bad foreign cultures and propagate them in South Sudan otherwise we will continue to gravitate toward the ground due to lack of constructive discussion in issues that matter great deal to this nation we all love.

You have full rights to air you convictions but take into consideration certain attributes that defines yourself.

UN representative warns of insecurity in Jonglei, Upper Nile
    Hi guys

The concern issued by the UN representative is a very ligimate idea and Jongolei plus Upper Nile authorities need to give Un hands to secure the area.

Regarding those brainless folks like an animal named himself Busta, he simply need to go back and reread what he has writen. He also need to put his deep analysis if he has any into it if at all that comment give him any slice meaning.

Mind you Busta, people in Jongolei or Upper Nile are not animals but real people who might be smarter than your gigantic empty brain. Very soon, we are going to take things very seriously till Jongolei come to permenant peace so that monkeys of your suit don’t insult as again.

    Copy that tiny note

    God bless

The writer is always peace activist.
