Sudan says satisfied with outcome ICC members meeting
June 11, 2009 (KHARTOUM) – The Sudanese government hailed the outcome of the two-day meeting held this week in the Ethiopian capital that discussed the possibility of a mass withdrawal by African states from the International Criminal Court (ICC).
The withdrawal was to be in protest of the ICC arrest warrant issued for Sudanese president Omer Hassan Al-Bashir in connection with Darfur war crimes.
However despite intense lobbying from Sudan, Libya, Senegal, Djibouti and Comoros Island the ICC members refused to sign off on the withdrawal proposal and instead called on the UN Security Council (UNSC) to invoke its powers under the Rome Statute to defer the indictment.
The deputy of the Sudanese mission in Addis Ababa Akoy Bona Malwal was quoted by the pro-government Akhbar Al-Youm as saying that he does not consider the non-withdrawal a failure.
Malwal said the meeting was a “gain” for Sudan and “achieved the target which is to undermine the usefulness of the court to the African countries”. He noted that the meeting discussed the structure of the ICC and its powers to indict a serving head of state.
Furthermore, he said that the withdrawal “was originally not a Sudanese demand” but pushed forward by other countries.
Sudan has addressed the African Union (AU) peace and Security Council last March saying it wants the ICC members to withdraw from The Hague based court.
The head of political affairs in the ruling National Congress Party (NCP) Mandoor Al-Mahdi told Sudan official news agency (SUNA) this week that he hoped that African countries will come up with a unified position on their ICC membership.
Al-Mahdi described the court as a “tool of neo-colonialism” and urged African states to rethink their relationship with international organizations.
Akoy Malwal did not rule out that some of the African ICC states were pressured by Western countries to change its position on withdrawal prior to the meeting.
The AU have criticized the arrest warrant against Bashir saying it undermined peace process in the region while some African politicians accused the court of unfairly targeting its statesmen.
The AU summit last February has called on its members to consider withdrawing from the court in response to the indictment.

Bona Malual, are you happy about the suffering of black in Sudan? What Omar has done in Warrap (Gogrial)
Are you happy to see the women walk stalked naked in Gogrial while Arabian’s women are wearing clothes, and driving MBW. Look at situation in Gogrial and compare with the situation in Khartuom, don’t you notice any differences, Let me tell you the withdrawal of indictment against your Godfather Bashir is destruction and suffering of black people in Sudan. I wonder what made you to support Bashir, yet he has not done anything to your relatives? I thought you will stand as a role model on our behalf and tell the world our suffering how Arabians decapitate us like chickens. I underdtood the reason why Garang Mabior hated you. You don’t need to lean on rotten trunk, and prop yourself against the sharp branch, that’s wrong. Uncle, Sudan has been in war since there was not indictment. The 22 years we have spent in the bush were the worst and I don’t think we have any worst than what we have already faced from Arabians. What is your different with Lam? Lam has lost his seat because he was supporting Bashir hower, you cannot lose your seat…kiirism but you will lose your position in our society. We need you to work on our interest, stand up for our right, defend us from our enemy and do any thing good that can help us rather than to turn your back at the land where you were born and smile at gleaming plate that you’re hired to lick. Omar will not do any thing good to black people in Sudan unless the international communities point the stick at him. Look, when he was indicted by ICC he made the first visit to Darfur so we need ICC arrest warrant issued for him to hang on him so that he can think of better way to end the war in the country.
“Don’t lick the edge of knife” It will hack the tip of your tongue, I mean don’t truth friend, friend is an enemy. Though Omar gave you mansion, it won’t be buried with you Sir but your contributions to success of Sudan will be remembered for trillion of years in the country.I thought you will stand up for… like Mandela and Julius Nyarere rather than to follow the footstep of your late cousin Kerubino Kuanyin Bol. We don’t need peace to die in Sudan or Omar to be hung notwithstanding we don’t need to watch the flame of fire in Darfur either. We don’t need Sudan to be like Somalia or South and north like Israel and Palestine. And to avoid the war and achieve in country, it needs us to condemn the evil act of decapitation, rape, assassination and mass massacre in any region.
KingJared.

How long has been since the South of Sudan got peace and freedom? 4-5 year?
What have you (Southern Sudanese) acheieved since then?
Tribal war, corruption levels unseen anywhere in the world, killing and raping one another over cattle, did I miss anything?
What has your SPLA done for you, where are the roads and bridges, where are the hospitals and schools where is security and order?
You keep blaming the “Arabs” for all your problems even though you have had freedom and self rule for 5 years, which is a disaster for you because you fail to admit that even though they might have been a problem for a long time they are no longer responsible for you and your actions
Did you ever consider the fact that as soon as you declare independance you will dive head first into your own inter tribal civil war?
Just reading the comments on this page and how different Southern tribes spit hate at each other goes to prove that your biggest enemy is no longer the “Arabs”, its YOURSELVES!!!
So leave the “Arabs” alone, they know what they are doing, the question is, DO YOU?
