Egypt reshuffles Sudan policy group: report
June 15, 2009 (KHARTOUM) — The Egyptian government conducted a major reshuffle within its Sudan policy team in the foreign ministry and intelligence bureau, a newspaper reported.
Furthermore, Cairo appointed Omer Ginawi, Hatem Bashat, Khaled Abdel-Rahim and Khaled Al-Orabi in the Sudan program group within the Egyptian presidency.
The Egyptian presidency in this context is understood to mean the intelligence bureau. Cairo publicly refers to its intelligence chief as a minister in the Egyptian presidency.
The former team included Mahmood Abdel-Khalek, Osama Ouf among others, the newspaper said.
No reason has been given to the reshuffle which but informed sources told the Al-Sahafa that they are part of routine changes.
Relations between Cairo and Khartoum appeared to have deteriorated in the last few months for unknown reasons.
Last April Sudanese president Omer Hassan Al-Bashir said that relations between his country and its Northern neighbor are “neither cold nor warm”.
The remarks signaled a departure from the customary Sudanese depiction of relations with Egypt as “historical and strong”.
Egypt was the second country among half a dozen states to receive Bashir since the warrant for his arrest was issued on March 4th by the International Criminal Court (ICC) on charges of war crimes in Darfur.
A second visit by Bashir to Egypt last April was reportedly cancelled.
The Sudanese head of state has attended a summit in the Arab Gulf state of Qatar boycotted by Egypt. The latter viewed the summit as a meeting of radical Arab states who support the Palestinian Islamic militant group Hamas.
Al-Bashir hailed the Lebanese militant group Hezbollah which Egyptian authorities accused of planning attacks on its territory.
Observers also say that Egypt is unhappy about the growing Qatari political role in mediating of the Darfur conflict.
Qatar managed to broker an accord between Darfur Justice and Equality Movement (JEM) and Khartoum. The goodwill agreement in the Qatari capital, pledged to negotiate a peaceful settlement to the six-year conflict in the western Sudan region of Darfur.
Talks are currently underway between JEM and Khartoum in Qatar to lay the groundwork for full blown negotiations and a possible ceasefire.

Could we still realised if Egypt could dreamized of being the master of Sudan in this century!
