Dutch delegation begins 4-day visit to Darfur
June 19, 2009 (EL-FASHER) — A high-level Dutch delegation began a four-day visit to Darfur today by meeting with senior officials in Darfur hybrid peacekeeping mission in El Fasher.
The delegation includes senior figures from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the Netherlands intends to inspect the humanitarian and security situations in the troubled province.
After arriving at UNAMID headquarters in El Fasher, the delegation was briefed by senior Mission officials on the current security, political and human rights situation in the region.
They also met with UN agencies and international non-governmental organizations (INGOs) operating in the area, as well as representatives of the Government of Sudan police.
The visiting team paid a visit to the nearby Al Salaam camp for internally displaced persons (IDPs), where they met local leaders.
