USA and the conflicts of self-Interests

By Izzadine Abdul Rasoul

June 20, 2009 — Long time ago and we are misled by the notion that United States of America is a leading democratic country that always stands on the side of the oppressed masses around the globe by reinforcing the rule of law, good governance and addressing human rights issues as well.

However; one was shocked to hear the US special envoy to Sudan , Scott Gration, on Wednesday saying, “that after the UN and remaining NGOs have been able to increase their capacity. And we’ve essentially closed the humanitarian gap that existed in Darfur when the 13 NGOs were expelled.”

First everybody should know that Mr. Scott on his all trips to Darfur was in the hand of genocidal regime in Khartoum. Although the regime security apparatus were, who accompanied his Excellency Sir Scott to Darfur and took him to the camps that the regime wanted him to see. Our mothers in the camps everyday complain about difficulty of the situation after the expulsion of 13 NGOs from Darfur. We believe that the statement made by the US Special envoy was typically the gift of the birth day Khartoum wanted from the Americans. Nevertheless; the contentment on the statement was expressed by Sudan Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ali Alsadig, when he said, “the envoy’s remarks meant there was no genocide at all and that the new envoy is better informed about the Darfur situation than other US officials because he has visited the region’. Sir Scott should have visited all IDPs camps or assign some of his team to do that, and that it would have caused him nothing but made him to have clear vision, instead of telling what he was told to say. The all IDPs camps in Darfur after the expulsion of the 13 NGOs suffer from lack of everything, including food shortages, water, Sanitation, medical care and other humanitarian needs.

Furthermore the US Envoy also added that that the Sudanese authorities are no longer engaging in a “coordinated” campaign of mass murder in Darfur. “What we see is the remnants of genocide. What we see are the consequences of genocide, the results of genocide.” He further said. If Mr. Scott follows the situations closely on 15th June in an Interview with Sudanese local paper the spokesperson of UNAMAID described the current situations on the ground in Darfur as everyday getting worst. So the remnant of genocide that Mr, Gration and his colleagues are seeing; may be the survivors who are not yet killed to be slaughtered and then the case is completed to a full genocide. The useless black dirty African families in Darfur or anywhere can easily be haggled; lives for information. We have good examples: the war in the south Sudan that lasted for 22 years and two millions and half of the population in the south were perished. Also the USA government vetoed many resolutions in favor of the former apartheid system in South Africa to protect American children interests at home. Although this does not negate that the United States of America has good hearted people; yes there are! But they are bound by the laws of conflicts of interests.

However; the statement of Envoy Scott shows that there is lack of coordination between Mr. Gration and his bosses on different levels or otherwise it’s a role play. He contradicted his President where he on his message to the Islamic world in Egypt last month said, “when innocents in Bosnia and Darfur are slaughtered, that is a stain on our collective conscience’. In Germany he also called what is happening in Darfur genocide. On the other hand on June 19 the Assistant Secretary of the US State Department said “We continue to characterize the circumstances in Darfur as genocide”. Add to this the Statements of US Envoy to UN Suzan Rice who always remind the international community to stop the Genocide in Darfur.

Concerning American policies on Sudan; American should have learned from comprehensive Peace Agreement CPA, Darfur Peace Agreement DPA that was imposed by former US Envoy to Sudan Robert Zoeleck and East Sudan Peace Agreement EPA. These pieces of peace are all in extensive care. Instead American should work on them to make other peace deals attractive. What one should say is that; either American are not able to know what is happening in Sudan or they know it better than the Sudanese themselves do; but they prioritizes the interest of the people of the United States of America over anything, no matter how many lives are lost or going to be lost, as far as they benefit the USA humanitarian assistants.

I read a comment on Gration statement from one of my countrymen who is from South Sudan named William Wol he, wrote, “ Hi! Alnur, you forget about US support as long as Barrack Hussein Obama chairing US administration. Child can resemble his/her father. So since Gration was appointed by him, absolutely, he cannot do anything to help Darfurians rather than favor the Regime in Khartoum. Therefore; what you can you continue with your patriotic spirit and arm all IDPS who have manhood spirit like you and keep on to defend your people, probably all the marginalized Sudanese whom were blindfolded with fake CPA have seen the truth and they are on their way to join you shortly”. This above mentioned quotation is clear lesson that tells USA and the international community that their foreign policy should learn that nothing could be imposed against the will of the people in this era.

In fact the statement of Gration was great incentive and legitimacy as well, for Arab Islamic fundamentalist regime in Khartoum to kill more innocent people as long as it has been applauded by the great nation, The United State of America which on the other hand contradicts the slogan of never again. Although, its clear for every Sudanese that the dangling CPA could not be put on to its real tract through untimely statements as far as the National Congress Party on power is unwilling to give any concessions for the rest of the Sudanese people to decide for the future of the country.

It has been said “whoever take a wrong train any station he or she drop down is a wrong station”.
