UDSF official quits to SPLM

By Thon Philip Aleu

June 24, 2009 (BOR) – A former Secretary General of the United Democratic Salvation Front or UDSF has requested the party to consider his activities “ceased” and declared “membership to the SPLM (Sudan People’s Liberation Movement).”

Jacob Duang Wan, in a press statement obtained by the Sudan Tribune at the SPLM office in Bor, explained the necessity to quit UDSF by saying:

“The United Democratic Salvation Front (UDSF) has been seriously sick since the departure of its Founder Dr. Riek Machar in 2001 to SPLM/A.”

UDSF is a Southern Sudan political party chaired by Gabriel Changson Chang – South Sudan minister of culture, youth and sport.

Jacob Duang Wan is currently a member of parliament at South Sudan Legislative Assembly (SSLA) on UDSF ticket from Upper Nile State. A long history of split paces to 2001, Duang says, 2 months after the first convention. Mr. Joseph Malual Dong led a rip then.

Four other members of the UDSF also accompany Jacob Duang Wan. They are Peter Riek Gai, Mary Peter Lia, John Guec Dak and David Kuony Chol. The new comers’ membership cards are being processed at SPLM State Secretariat office in Bor.

Duang detached from UDSF stating that “one does not become a [member of] party of burial of the sick….and without any political pressure; the mainstream Juba leadership under H.E Gabriel Changson Chang considers my activities in the party ceased.”

Duang applauded former members for the support during his leadership as Secretary General as he heads to the SPLM.

“To this point, I declare my membership to the SPLM party which the hope of all Southern people and marginalized masses of Sudan.”

Dear Southerners, SPLM does not wish to monopolize any system in the Sudan but has to do everything in its capacity to liberate all marginalized people of Sudan. Therefore, we should be highly appreciative of our southern intellectuals who early realized the need to unite behind the SPLM to chieve our badly needed common interest.

I hope that the defection of Jacob Duang Wan from the UDSF to the SPLM is received well by all the Sudanese political forces and mainly so in the inner circles of the fro and to parties.

Let us hope that Dr. Lam’s recent media saga need not repeat itself, though the reasons given by Mr. Duang for his defection may not go well with his former colleagues.

“The UDSF has been seriously sick since the departure of its founder, Dr Riek Machar in 2001 to SPLM/A”, explained Duang. “One does not become a (member of party of burial of the sick…….), he added.

While Duang should be wished well in his new political party the SPLM; he should also be reminded that political parties do not survive only by the presence of their founders as he will find out very soon that where he has decided to go, is a party that has also lost its founder (Dr. John Garang de Mabior).

And our friend should also be ready to live with the realities of the massive sickness waiting him to see in the SPLM following the tragic departure of the founder and that some top members just left from there recently.

Lastly, similarly to what we witnessed after Dr. Lam‘s departure of the SPLM (where he abandoned his seat in the Parliament), we also expect Mr. Duang to quit the SSLA seat that he is currently occupying on the UDSF ticket as an on going tradition.

Last but not least, we have to live with the reality that our brother Duang and the rest of those who defected with him should be respected for practicing their democratic rights.

But I would also want to draw the attention of all the fossil Sudanese political parties, which unless they undergo reforms, there will remain to be random movements in our political arena as the lack of strong leadership has plunged us into this Brownian’s motion where in the event, we are set to endlessly bombard one another.

And to Duang and colleagues I would like to remind them that if they can not bring to effect democratic reforms in any political setting where they ever find themselves, then I am afraid to forecast to them that much more defections are awaiting them ahead.

    UDSF official quits to SPLM
Dear Website readers of Sudan Tribune,

The prospectives vision in which our Late leader Dr John Garang, the Chairman of the SPLM/SPLA has been urging everyone in Southern Sudan in order for us we Southerners to confederated our themselves by giving a firm support and encouraging the SPLM/SPLA objections, is now underway and one example is shown by one of our endear friend Mr Jacob Duang Wan, a Former Secretary General of the United Democratic Salvation Front. This is what the SPLM/SPLA has been deserving a lot since 1983 instead of forming “Extremist Parties which are not even doing or showing the significance roles of the Movement.

In fact, forming of the Multi- parties in Southern Sudan will not help us we Southern Sudanese people because of the fact that we don’t come together and fight for one thing. Second, we know that UDSF was formed by Feign Dr Riak Machar Teny as well as SSIM and many other parties such as SPDF, SSDF, ERM and SPLM/UNITED or SPLM/DC. But, by then, are these parties active right now in Southern Sudan? Dear friends, I think if I’m not wrong, then the formation of Multi-parties is nothing to us, but the key important thing we should look forward is that are these parties ready to carried their objectives very effectively and initiatively?. On the other hand, are these parties “off-clear” from “discrepencies” and “remisses”?

I believed that Mr Jacob Duang Wan, is not wrong from what he did in order to cease his membership from UDSF because of what he termed as the “Sick of UDSF Founder Mr Riek.
He is absolutely right because if he doesn’t see any relevances issues of forming UDSF, then he has a right to waive his membership to the SPLM. So, I encouraged Mr Jacob Duang Wan for a wise decision he has made to leave the UDSF.

Third, the leaving of Mr Jacob Duang Wan, from the UDSF will be a good an example to the other parties such as SPLM/DC or SPLM/UNITED, SPDF, SSDF and ERM. So, Mr Jacob Duang Wan, it is good in order to have times so that you can explained exactly why these parties failed to carried their objectives besides on your own outstanding. Also, it is good to narrate one diagnostic problem on why such extremists parties never show their motives progress instead of accelerating the incidents and become the enemies of war.

Thank you so much Mr Jacob Duang Wan for knowing what intercepted the SPLM/SPLA in order to speed up its mission since 1983 until the signing of the CPA on January the 9th, 2005. SPLM/SPLA is a very strong Movement, but with such atrocities being stirred in down low by some other serpents, SPLM/SPLA will not be strong like it was, but Almighty God is great.
