Darfur rebel figure denies differences over handling of peace talks
June 29, 2009 (PARIS) — A Darfur rebel figure today dismissed statements made by Sudanese officials claiming that there are differences within the Justice and Equality Movement (JEM) on the handling of the peace talks in Qatar.
The head of the Sudanese delegation to the Doha peace talks between JEM and the Sudanese government, Amin Hassan Omer, spoke today in a press conference held in Khartoum about divergences between Suleiman Jamous and JEM leader Khalil Ibrahim over the priorities of the rebel movement in the talks.
Omer was referring to a report published by a pro-government news service Sudanese Media Center (SMC) website which said that Jamous criticized Khalil’s rejection to the resumption of the peace negotiations with the government until it releases his half brother Abdel Aziz Abu Usher who is among JEM rebels detained after May 2008 attack on Khartoum.
Suleiman Jamous, a veteran rebel who joined the rebel JEM earlier this year, denied Omer statements describing it as “lies aiming to create distrust inside the movement and confusion about JEM stance.”
“I was part of JEM delegation to Doha meetings with the government delegation and if I had an opinion different from the official position of the movement I would not wait for Amin Hassan Omer to announce it,” he further said.
He stressed that he joined JEM because they share together the same vision over the need to protect the rights of Darfur people, adding that their position on the resumption of the talks has nothing with the release of Khalil brother.
JEM which signed a goodwill agreement with the Sudanese government on February 17, refuses to resume peace process before the implementation of two clauses included in the deal: the exchange of the prisoners of war (POWs) and the amelioration of the humanitarian situation.
However the Sudanese government says it will release the POWs only after the signing of a ceasefire agreement that JEM rejects currently.
Jamous further disclosed he had headed JEM delegation to a meeting with the US special envoy Scott Gration held in the Chadian capital Ndjamena on Sunday. He said the meeting was “fruitful and constructive.”
“We discussed the past and the future of the Doha process and we reached common vision on many points,” said Jamous.
The mediation after two months of talks suspended the process. The government and rebel delegations delegations would meet in August. Djibril Bassolé, the joint mediator said last week they would work during this period to create a common ground allowing the resumption of the talks.
He also spoke about unannounced agreement accordingly Khartoum should release twenty rebels.
Jamous said the US envoy wanted a swift resumption of the peace process telling them two months of suspension “is too long”.
“We expressed our readiness to resume the negotiations whenever the government implements the signed deal on the confidence building, said the rebel veteran.
JEM delegation also mentioned during the meeting that it is the role of the mediator to follow up the implementation of a deal they sponsored.
According to Jamous, the US envoy understood their position and pledged to tackle the issue with the Sudanese official during his visit to Sudan within two weeks.
Gration will visit Sudan on July 14 where he is expected to visit Darfur to meet the IDPs and the civil society as well as the different tribal leaders.

Darfur Movement’s leaders should worry about Doha intention rather than Khartoum.
For centuaries, Khartoum has been known by its legacy of lies, cheats and attempts to ignite flames in opponant ranks as Darfurians should have good experiences in that matter. Darfurians have been part of it for being a tool to be used by Khartoumers to kill non-Muslim population in the South and should all be aware of Khartoum tactics.
Let’s remind Darfurian about some Khartoum lies in her war with the Marginalised people’s Movements led by the SPLM/A.
Firstly; Khartoum’s Army, Council of Ministers for Sectarian governments, Arab Ethnic & religious Coup D’e`tat Councils spokespersons always and shamelessly say; Our Armed Forces have killed 1,000 SPLA Dinka’s Rebels and we lost one soldier and one wounded.
They (Khartoumers) also said thousands of times that our Armed Forces has decided to withdraw women and children from a non-strategic Town (Note! Non-strategic towns for Khartoumers are those like Nasir, Rumbek, Torit, Kurmuk etceteras) due to Ethiopians, Israelis and Council of Churches backed Dinka rebels activities.
Because Khartoum’s sectarian regimes are addicted to culture of lies & Kills; they cannot hesitate to send a Statement to its racist Media tools saying that our forces have retaken a strategic town they previously announced as unstrategic when it has fallen to the SPLA forces.
As the Sudanese people become very, very experience with Khartoum lying day & night; it is obiously known that whatever the Khartoum say, the reality is opposite.
As Khartoum keep saying its forces have killed SPLA rebels in thousand numbers as they say, they must have either lost that number in its own army ranks or they killed thousand civilians because civilians in marginalised areas are not citizens; they are rebels to Khartoum.
For these few lies from a healthy list of them in Khartoum; Darfurians must focus on all peacefull means of struggle including use of armed struggle to achieve what they have been there for and must not worry bout Khartoum liars.

I think ICC has forgotten that people are still dying in Darfur. Why should they not do follow up and get Bashir arrested. Bashir must be srrested for all his bad actions against the nation. He just wants to be like Joseph kony, Lourance Kunda and Al qaida leader who died since 2007.
Every unrespectfull will die so that the world remain in PEACE
