Opposition FRUD calls on Djiboutian unity against government

June 26, 2009 — Djibouti is observing its 32 years of dictatorship during which a brutal and repressive regime has thrived on the misery and impoverishment of the people.

The Front for the Restoration of Unity and Democracy (FRUD) affirms its continuous opposition to the twilight regime and its determination to struggle against this Mafia clique in power.

FRUD expresses its unflinching support to its militants and combatants of liberty, worthy sons of our country who are fighting under very difficult conditions especially in Northern Djibouti who are being characterized as foreign intruders by the very group in power whose own origin is uncertain and whose citizenship is dubious, to say the least.

The FRUD in conjunction with all democratic forces and eminent political, traditional and cultural personalities reiterates its position to continue its combat for justice, for a real national State and for authentic democracy

The FRUD solemnly declares its intention and readiness to play a central role in the struggle against the regime of Guelleh and to embody and express the profound aspirations of the people of Djibouti for a democratic change.

The FRUD
– Convinced that there is no possibility of change by way of the ballot box;
– Conscious that it would be dangerous, even criminal, to let this regime continue

Calls on all the people, all the political, social and cultural forces to stand united and in a responsible manner for the struggle to end the life time presidency of Ismael Omar Guelleh and against the regime which stands opposed to all human emancipation and which destroys all that is noble and valorous in a human being.
