Ethiopia, Sudan social affairs committee meets in Addis Ababa

July 2, 2009(ADDIS ABABA) — Experts drawn from Ethiopia and Sudan have come together in the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa , for their joint social Affairs committee meetings.

Experts of the two neighbors have begun their two-day meeting today at Ethiopia’s foreign affairs office to talk on ways of implementing previous agreements, both sides made to jointly work on social affairs.

By the end of their meeting tomorrow, both sides are expected to prepare a one-year and 3-years strategic plans so as to implement passed agreements which the action plans will later be approved by a ministerial committee of the two countries.

According to Ethiopia expert’s group leader Getaneh Mituku, Ethiopia and Sudan joint higher committee have signed agreements on culture, tourism, sports, health, education, man-power exchange and others.

“The number of agreements signed on various sectors between the two neighbors will further strengthen multilateral ties between the countries.” Mituku said, adding “Ethiopia will remain dedicated to implement those signed agreements.”

A representative from the Sudanese delegation, Dr. Kemal Abdel- Kadir assured that his group will work hard to reach a common understanding with the Ethiopian counterparts.

Abdel-Kadir underscored the need to take advantage of such cooperation that benefits the peoples of both countries.
