Rumbek students appeal for financial aid during disease outbreak

July 15, 2009 (ABYEI) — The Northern Bahr el Ghazal State students’ union at Rumbek Senior Secondary School has sent out a letter to the public seeking for financial assistance.
This comes after several weeks with students in Rumbek seeking ways to overcome an outbreak of disease not yet confirmed as chick pox.
Speaking by phone from Rumbek, William Door Athian who works for UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and who regularly visit the school, says students from northern Bahr el Ghazal in Rumbek are facing a lot of conditions which should require the attention of the state government.
He said the disease started on July 7, resulting in the school administration isolating a few students in dormitories to avoid further spread to their fellow colleagues since it is contagious disease. Out of 38 students currently in the isolated rooms, 12 are from Northern Bahr el Ghazal State (NBGS), of which most come from poor family backgrounds in various counties of our state, he described.
“We have tried to connect affected students with their families through phone calls but most of the families failed to help due to hunger which has drawn their attentions,” he said.
Their conditions are getting worse, he stressed. In frustration, he said that the notion that the Government of Southern Sudan offers free medical services is a dream, because there are no drugs in Rumbek hospital. Doctors only prescribe a medicine for one to go and buy from privately owned pharmacies.
As such, the Aweil students’ union leadership in Rumbek has decided to appeal for financial aid from the state governor, assembly members, council of the ministers, NBGS members in the Juba assembly, NBGS members in the Government of National Unity, Aweil business people and indeed any sympathizers to get them out of situation.
Asked about students from the other states, Mr. Athian said a number of politicians from Warrap and Lakes states have already rushed to help their students by either sending money for treatment in better served health centers in Rumbek or by transferring them to Khartoum and Eastern African countries.
Mr. Athian directed those who are willing to provide assistance to send money either through himself, or through the Nile Commercial bank deputy manager in Rumbek, or the chairperson of the Aweil student union in Rumbek, or the finance secretary of the Aweil student union in Rumbek.

We have been talking about the health condition of Rumberk day and night how so called Dinkas are dirty.
Chick pox is caused because of poor Hygiene. When I was in Rumberk in 2007, you could hardly see latrine since people there have the idea of “when a woman go to latrine, she will never give birth again”
So to give finance assistance is just waisting of money since the disease is cause by their own making.
