Sudan confirms first two cases of swine influenza

July 16,2009 (KHARTOUM) — Sudan has confirmed on Thursday its first two cases of H1N1 flu virus after two Sudanese returning from London tested positive for the virus.

The Ministry of Health said three Sudanese returning from Britain were sent to hospital on Monday July 13 in Khartoum after showing flu symptoms while at the airport.

Test carried out on Monday showed they had been infected with H1N1, the ministry said in press statement released in Khartoum.

The two patients are recovering, the ministry said.

Since last April, the Sudanese authorities said they had taken necessary measures to tighten controls at airports in Khartoum, Juba and Port Sudan.

Most of Sudan neighbors: Egypt, Ethiopia, Kenya, Libya, Uganda have already detected cases of H1N1 influenza since last month.
