Sudan central bank governor appoints new assistants
August 2, 2009 (KHARTOUM) — The governor of Sudan’s Central Bank Saber Mohamed Al-Hassan appointed three assistants for positions that have long been vacated, state news media reported.
The decree by Al-Hassan announced the appointment of Hussein Yahiya Jangoul, assistant for economy sector and policies who formerly headed the department of the bureau for polices, research and statistics at the bank.
Mohamed Hassan Al-Sheik director of the Central Bank office in Khartoum was moved to become the governor’s assistant for administration sector and services.
The governor re-appointed Al-Nur Abdel-Salam as assistant for financial sector and regulations.
The order states that these appointments are due to the expiration of the terms of previous assistants.
Sudan Central Bank along with the ministry of finance and national economy are working to reverse the effects of the global financial crisis that is expected to curtail the growth rates and foreign currency reserves.
The International Monetary Fund (IMF), upon request from Sudan, has initiated a monitoring program of the country’s economic performance and policies to achieve a set of goals including sustaining economic growth, maintaining macroeconomic stability, and rebuilding foreign exchange reserves.
The IMF missions sent this year recommended that Sudan change tax code, reduce expenditures and minimize foreign exchange intervention.
