August 9, 2009 (KHARTOUM) — A number of employees at a Sudanese blank have stolen millions of dollars, a pro-government newspaper reported today.

The Akhir-Lahza newspaper said that 200 million Sudanese pounds ($83 million) were extended as loans by Al-Nilain bank, founded in 1993, without proper due diligence to assess the ability of borrowers to repay or taking any collateral to secure the loan.

The bank primarily provides loans primary to businesses.

Moreover, the newspaper quoting sources said that several bank employees including senior officers have embezzled millions risking the collapse of the financial institution.

One of the employees has already been referred to the court and that the bank management is seeking to reach a settlement with the embezzlers without referring the matter to court.

However, Al-Nilain bank issued a statement condemning the “false” and “baseless” report and threatened legal action against the newspaper.

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) report on the Sudanese economy last month highlighted weaknesses in the banking sector stating it needs restructuring particularly the state owned Omdurman National Bank (ONB), which accounts more than half of the economy’s Non-Performing Loans.

How do you expect the economy to be strong without employing the right people and what can stop thiefs to steal money from the banks?

People are just employed if they wear garments and headcarfs but not on their qualifications–these are the dire consequences of that–if people are employed on their capabilities–that can prevent such morale–you can not employed an engineer to work in the bank or a policeman to work as a plumber–that can cause a grave diaster–it is good that it happens in Khartoum–this is all the weakeness of the government–institutions such as bank are regulated-

What a shame? Those ordinary employees copied this embezzlement of public and private wealth from the government–no doubt about–and they are not to blame–they thought that’s the only way to get rich when you steal other’s money. All those victims can point their fingers at the government–the one who encourage such activities to be carried out without notice–…..

Sudanese bank employees embezzled millions: report
The naked corruption of the NCP regime is now coming to light as the Sudanese people wake up with the news that their money becomes the property of some greedy officials. If little guys such as the bank employees can steal millions of dollars, then Bashir and his cronies have already emptied the reasury. Let Bashir and his cronies remember that Meboto Sesisiko was richer than Congo, but he died in shame.
